  6. I use one in my house. They are a tad bit larger than typical 'indoor' cameras, but in my opinion thats not what makes it look bad. It's the color, if you ask me. I prefer white to gray. But its not *that* bad. I think you can't beat it for the money. That said, I have mine in my basement. I would *not* put that camera in my living room, because it looks too intrusive and stands out too much with the gray color.

  10. Your title is a bit confusing, but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you arent asking if you can use Avigilon client to connect to the Exacqvision service running on a server... Avigilon should work on any regular server hardware that you have access to the OS and can install/uninstall programs, as long as it meets the minimum hardware spec requirements... Unless you have some sort of embedded DVR or something? I just had Avigilon running on the same server that Exacqvision was installed on for a few days. You'll have to make sure that you turn OFF the exacqvision services so they arent running, or they will most likely interfere with the Avigilon services that may use the same port, depending on how you have things set up. I ended up just uninstalling the Exacqvision web service to test out Avigilon for a few days, because when I reboot the server, the exacqvision web service would try to start again, even though I had it set to only start manually. Weird... As far as whether or not Avigilon is compatible with your cameras, check out Avigilon's website to see if your model of cameras are supported. http://avigilon.com/downloads/acc4/ACC-Support-Devices-4.10.0.14.pdf
  11. Click on image for full resolution. Like I said, the frame rate (#4 in the photo) goes from 0 to at least once every 124 seconds, then I stopped trying.
  12. The simple viewer has no idea what kind of switch you have. You just select the image quality and the image size from the simple viewer (scale of 1 to 10), and it increases/decreases accordingly (probably via hard-coded code in the exacqvision web server software), regardless of what switch you have. Keep in mind here that your bottleneck is your internet speed, not your switch. You'd be hard-pressed to find an internet speed whose upload ability even gets close to 25% of your switch speed, and thats assuming you only have a 10/100 switch! Like I said, my business-class internet only averages about 7mbps upload. Actually, I just remembered... YOU choose the FPS on the simple viewer -- anywhere from 0 to a big number (I tested and it kept going up above 120 seconds, then I didnt feel like clicking the up button anymore). Then you choose the quality and image size, as well.
  13. Sure. All gigabit is nice. But the all gigabit will only help widen the traffic highway between the cameras and the server, and will also help your video transmission from the server to your client machine LOCALLY, assuming that you are connected to the gigabit switch from your client machine, and the client machine has a gigabit NIC. However, if you are using wi-fi from a laptop, or if you arent on the local network, the gigabit switch wont help the server stream the video up over the internet any faster, since, like others have said, the internet will be your bottleneck. I pay $75 a month for Cox business internet at home, and I am getting about 30mbps down and 7mbps up. My video streaming is just OK when I am trying to stream remotely. But I usually dont choose to stream more than 2 or 3 cameras at once. If I load all 6 cameras remotely, its really laggy. I have the Netgear GS110TP switch, and I like it a lot. Yes. If you use the "simple" interface, you can choose the video size and the quality, on a scale of 1 to 10, but you can only choose one camera at a time to view. However, you could open up multiple browser windows if you want to view a few different cameras at once.
  14. Hmm. I don't really have any suggestions for a good IP camera for under $250. Maybe somebody else will chime in with suggestions.
  15. We'd need more info from you. There are a lot of good cameras. Do you want a dome or a box camera? Do you want Megapixel or not (and if so, how many MP's? 1, 2, 5, etc)? Do you want I.R. built in, or are you adding your own external I.R. illuminator? Do you need it to be vandal resistant? Do you have a preference for sensor size (1/2", 1/3", 1/4", etc)? Do you need to have a camera that will allow you to change the lens out? If not, do you have a specific field-of-view requirement? Do you require POE, multiple streams, H.264, onboard SD card, or any other specific feature on the camera? And most importantly, what is your budget? Otherwise, I could just tell you to buy a Pro Series Avigilon camera or something like that But if you are looking for a good bang-for-your-buck, I think that Vivotek is decent. If you have a little more money to spend, Axis is nice, too. It just all depends on how much money you want to spend and what your requirements for the camera are. It also depends on what VMS you're using, as you need to make sure that the VMS supports the camera that you choose. Oh, and I would stay away from wireless unless you absolutely have no other choice. If wired will work for you, then you shouldnt even be considering any wireless camera.
  16. Apparently they did make an improvement to the search page. This is at least the 2nd update they've made this year to it (might be the 3rd?). It's getting better each time. I did an un-official test last night with a "smart search" on 12 hours of constant recorded video. It took about 2 minutes. It seemed a bit faster, althought still not instant like Avigilon. It's a step in the right direction, though! And the timeline looks better too. I can't figure out why, though. Here is what Exacq's blog says they've done in version 4.8: ■Faster, easier search ■Panoramic video views ■Enhanced export Archiving ■Improved Maps – Add I/O triggers to Maps ■Audio alerts added to event monitoring ■ePlayer and exacqReplay Improvements ■Post-motion recording configuration added ■IP Camera Additions from Arecont, Basler, more ■Czech Translation added The details on the search page improvements are: -Improved Timeline – Cleaner, easier-to-use timeline bar and display. Simple right-click on timeline bar to mark start and stop points for video export. -Easy Export – Use mouse scroll wheel to zoom in on the search bar graphic timeline to choose the desired search times. -Faster Multi-Camera Searching – Significant speed improvements enables faster multi-camera search queries, especially when doing multiple searches. Here's to dreaming that version 5.0 is a complete re-vamp of the search page to make it as instant as Avigilon's. Then we'll have a winner! (oh, and compatibility with Mobotix, and 'officially' support Avigilon cameras!). Otherwise, I'm still loving my Exacq setup.
  17. You couldnt tell the rest of us that you install and recommend Avigilon?
  18. Avigilon and Exacq would be my top two picks. I heard milestone is nice too. I played with a free copy of it about 3 years ago, but kind of forget any specifics of it after using Avigilon and Exacq. I use exacq, and have 4 analog cameras hooked up to it via an Axis encoder. I am slowly upgrading the analog cameras to IP as the budget allows, and as I find IP cameras that I like.
  19. I will also assume you are referring to IP cameras + NVR device, as opposed to a DVR and analog cameras. $1000 for four cameras, VMS software, and hardware to record on is not going to buy you a whole lot of 'quality'. Additionally, I'd stay away from "package" deals, where you get the whole system all in one big package. That also won't give you much quality, especially if you are using the words "Sam's Club", "Costco", or any of those other big box store names in the same sentence. If he already has a computer/server/whatever set up that he would like to record to, take a look at some quality VMS software (Exacq, Avigilon, Milestone, etc) to run on that machine, and then add the cameras individually as the budget allows. Exacq and Avigilon have iOS apps, or you can use the browser to view the cameras from the mobile device. Oh, and only use wireless if you absolutely HAVE to.
  20. Check the manual and make sure the port or ports are correct -- mainly make sure that you only have to forward ONE port. I had a DVR before that required me to forward two different ports; one for the web traffic (80) and one for the password or something like that (8000). If both of them werent forwarded correctly, i got the same error that you are getting
  21. http://www.vivotek.com/products/model.php?network_camera=fd8162&tab=over If so, how do you like it? It claims to have WDR, which should help with the issue I am having with my FD8161, where sunlight totally drowns it out. I wouldn't be replacing the 8161, just adding these two cameras to my setup to replace some older non-ip, non-mp cams. Exacq doesnt list this as a supported camera on their website. I emailed them to double check, but haven't heard back yet. Although, the camera is listed as having ONVIF support, so who knows...
  22. And the email I got from Avigilon asking if they supported the FD8161 and/or the FD8162. Bummer about the motion detection: --------------------------------------------- Both the vivotek cameras listed are on the list of ONVIF conformant products which we support in ACC: onvif.org FD8161 Product Details Revision 0100h FD8162 Product Details Revision FD8162-VVTK-0100b The motion detection will not be implemented for the Vivotek cameras but will record continuous.
  23. The email I got today from Exacq: --------------------------------------------- William, It does not look like we have done any testing specifically with the FD8162, nor do we have one in house. We have tested with the FD8161 and it worked just fine. The website is updated weekly if not daily with new additions, newly tested firmware, etc. In short, I can't say that it is officially supported but it will most likely work. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Regards, Exacq Support
