paprotec replied to Rock Austin's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Ok, you have some PC knowledge. So why are you so against PC DVRs? I have hundreads in the field with no problems. 99% of the time user error. What PC DVR's have you used? -

PC based DVR vs. Standalone DVR – Pros & Cons.
paprotec replied to SecureVision's topic in General Digital Discussion
I have seen many embedded DVR’s that have bugs and that are prone to lock up. Example: I know of 3 big brands that had MAJOR issues with leap year. If a PC based DVR is running an active watchdog program, it can run with as much reliability as embedded. Plus the added features. If you want to pay $995.00 for your PC based DVR, then good luck. -
PC based DVR vs. Standalone DVR – Pros & Cons.
paprotec replied to SecureVision's topic in General Digital Discussion
Don’t buy into the myth that embedded dvrs are more stable that PC based. Like in any other piece of equipment… you get what you pay for. If you want to buy an ebay dvr board, your going to have stability problems. PC based DVR can be made to run just as stable as embedded. The benefit that you have with embedded DVR’s is that you can buy them for under $400. -

How many inputs are you looking for on the Nuvico? We sell them as well. Kodicom's are good, just a little pricy. Their remote software is also very good. BUT their standalone dvr software is diffrent than the PC based. -

IDIS, Win4Net and Kodicom. But there is a major problem with Korea DVR companies. They are incredibly disloyal. I have worked with one of these companies for four years and it has been a nightmare. A, you and I have talked about this company. The Korean DVR Industry is a MESS with competition. I would kill for a good US company that we could wrap our arms around and have some protection. BUT, its all going to come down to software. Who has the best? That’s up for debate. -

I guess its grown a little bit I have tested: 3R Comart Eastern IDIS Kodicom Picaso SungJin TOM Win4Net and Winnertec I was in Korea a few months ago. I asked people who was the biggest. IDIS, Kodicom, and 3R were the largest response. -

I'm not sure who makes them. I know that you can pick up the boards for under $500. I saw them when I was in Korea. -
www.dvrsupply.com We are testing a system from them. They tell us that POS will be built into the box in 2 months. They aren't going to use TVS or any other exterior box. The POS boxes require special software and they are both very expensive. In the box POS is the way to go.

15 to 20 FPS used to be the max FPS per chip. However in recent months the major DVR manufactures have written new drivers to support true 30 FPS per chip. It will be some time before we see 480 display and record at 640X480. This PC bus is the bottle neck. Also, as more and more DVR board makers go to hardware compression, frame rates and quality will increase. There are only a handful of companies using hardware compression at this time. PA

Not sure what you can get in AU. But we have been very pleased with the Kodicom DVRs. Win4Net is also very good. Always had problems with Avers. They just never seemed to get it all right. There will always be issues with every DVR, and every DVR company. We've just tired to find one that worked with us, and that we could support for our dealers.

What kind of price are you getting on the boards? PA

I would never sell Geovision just because anyone can buy it. I also don't like the search feature. These are the two most important things to me. The feature that is most used on any DVR is search.... I just don't think Geo is advanced as the Korean Co's. Geo has lots of featues, but the average end user only searches. As a side note. I have seen the Geo software run on the Avers boards. This has been at least two years ago, but I wonder if it still works.

Also, the manuals are the same.
