Have not used the DVR-16IP you listed; however, I have the DVR-T4IP. A bit disappointing from expectations from reading specs., though I am an absolute novice. It is easy to use but the directions are crap. You need to watch the drop off in frame rate as you add cameras. The record rate drops in half each time you add a camera at 720 x 480. But at smaller size the rate increases back to advertised 120 frames. Running 30 frames it records for 4 days with the 160GB hard drive so get as large as you can. It has a propriatary player that must be used and installed on the computer you view it on, at least for me. No luck using disc on other regular players. Search functions are easy to use but annoying because you can quickly skip over a set with double hits. (ME?) I did not use the IP due to slow internet connection to house.

Could you be a little more spcific as to model? Are you looking at the DVR-T4IP model? http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/default.asp?action=viewcat&catid=153

Thanks for the reply and the information. I was thinking about the same thing. Being an end user myself, it gets expensive fast when experimenting and only need a small quantity. went with extreme cameras and was surprised by the response from the cameras.

Hello again, I have read all the posts regarding IR cameras and illuminators and I understand the differences in wavelength response, and the difference in bulb, laser, and LED types of IR Illuminators and even the degree angle of coverage. also that the difference in the total number of illuminators combined with the total power output, and degree of coverage, and (most importantly) the amount of reflective material determines range of effectiveness. Now, is there a difference in the products from different manufactures of IR illuminators (ie Pelco vs Extreme vs an OEM) when it comes to comparing there products, (ie. Standard LED type with 30 LEDS at 850nm range)? How would I know? I understand each manufactures warrantee there products differently so I am talking the actual product side by side. Thanks

I can definitely agree. which angle are you trying to change? the center screw is covered by the camera and has to be done first, tilting the camera out of the way, then the up down is easy. the third rotation is darn near impossible and I settled with less than perfect adjustment but it serves my purpose.

no, no no, its wrong message with error what that?

Hey, Here's a link to the local newspaper covering the recent flooding in our area. I was spared, but, unfortunately, not my brother, his property and house was flooded. http://www.recordonline.com/flood06/flood2006.html

thanks Rory, Sorry for not getting back right away, been helping him and others out. He made out pretty lucky. No one was hurt and only had a few inches of water downstairs through the patio doors, only lost the carpet. Moved everything else up before as the water kept rising. Outside is a mess. Trees and other debris. the kids lost their toys out there, but aren't complaining because they are getting new stuff. the water has never been that high in his area before, ever. The neighbors 3 doors down lost pretty much everything after building his new house in a kind of gully. stripping it to see what can be salvaged and rebuilt. foolish if you ask me, but when all your money is tied up into paying it off, you have do what you have to do, and hope.

Your IR distance was mainly reduced from going with the 940nm filter. Again, Rory your advice was dead on to the tech's. As well as cooperman and others. Thanks for the info, contact, and continued support. His answer and advice is: "Although great for covert applications, the 940nm filter on all illuminators lets less light through and therefore reduces the overall distance significantly. All distances are quoted in 730 or 830 nm wavelengths. To answer your questions. Yes the camera will see IR at the 850nm. So using a EX26LED850M (30 deg) IR illuminator will be a nice IR booster and would get you the illumination you're looking for. An EX26LED940W (60 deg) or EX26LED940M (30 deg) would not get you the distance you're looking. The UF100.404 (60 deg 940 nm) should get you the distance you're looking for. You'll need a dedicated power supply as well. Either the UFPS.101 (120 vac input) or the UFPS.124 (24 vac input). Another great solution for you would have been the EX30MNX or EX82 Integrated Day Night cameras with IR" Now I need to decide which way to jump. Whether to continue to go with the more covert route or let the more noticible glow show.

I have 2 ex40mnx dome cameras with the 940nm ir and on one I am not sure the Ir is working. Is there any way to test it in place? Both cameras by day look great. I am using siamese wire with 18 guage wire and copper shielding and the longest run is 40 ft of cable with the way it is run. I can barely make out the car at 30 ft., the plants and steps which are 6 ft in front of the camera are barely visible. One camera is pretty decent but the otheris crap. The ir for the 2 cameras overlap so there should be plenty of light. The picture also has a lot of snow in it. I am using a Speco T4ip dvr set at superfine 740x480, 15 frames per camera or does this just have crappy night playback? Do I have the contrast too high or do I need more IR. Trying not to have the front look like a christmas tree with packages all over. Would the speco ir200 work with it's 850nm ir for the 940nm filters? I can send someone pictures to view and post on monday if someone will host them. Thanks

Thanks Rory I really appreciate all the help and effort you are providing. I will contact them.

it was Zarah again. Company policy.
-
Sorry I can't remember now, was a little ticked off. first contact was with email to Zarah Megerdoonian to put me in contact with the NY area rep. on the 17th I was then contacted by Candice Hart for more info right after that; and today had another rep. call me to tell me what I wrote before.
-
I contacted Extreme and explained the situation and asked them the approximate ranges of the ex26LED and the uf100 using 940nm. They REFUSED to talk to me because, "I was not a dealer and they did not deal with end users directly." To say the least I am not exactly happy with that answer. Tech support??? Does anyone have other products that they could recommend using this range of IR?
-
When you are looking to use 2 ex26's are they going to be in different places or in the same location aimed at different spots? In my case then the ex 26 would not be strong enough particularly using the 940 spectrum and the uf100 would be too much. Correct? so you are saying I need 2 additional sources of IR, one for the cars and beyond and one for the front lawn. you don't think one source aimed at the lawn would give enough for the cars as well without overpowering it?
-
nope, the street sign and the milk can are 60ft away. I'm looking to see anyone messing with the cars and the area this side of it on the lawn where the other camera is aimed now.
-
OK, Your recommendation for additional IR? Please??
-
OK then I need a whole crap more IR to flood the area. They are adjoining areas and I would like to use 1 source to light it. The walklights and walkway are new that are covered in the second night picture. The ones I just sent Rory don't show it. I was thinking 80% efficiency not 20%. MY fault. I believed advertising.
-
What you are failing to see in the second picture is a chevy s10 pickup truck at most 30 ft away. If you are correct, then adding more IR will not help the situation then... and Switching to 850nm IR will help. If I understand correctly what someone else has posted earlier, the higher filteron the camera will not detect this lower range even if I were to add it. I chose the higher nm rating because I did not want the LED showing where the cameras were aimed and chose internal IR to minimize the footprint on the front of the house. I also understood the reduction in output using the higher nm rated filter and figured I would be within limits for this situation but I seem to have missunderstood and did not expect the level of reduction to be as great as it is. Now my question is; would adding yet another IR element to the front of the house, say an ex12LEDW rated at 940nm and 60 degree wide dispersment work or should I go with a longer range ex26 or UF100? or am I wasting my time and money and should eat my losses and start all over?
-
I have picture at night, the camera does switch to B&W and as headlights pass by I have passable picture, I even have the reflectors in the taillights of the truck but I'm not sure if hat is the zir or the result from the streetlight nerby. I believe it is working just not very strong. I don't think the IR is putting out as much as they should be. I sent Rory a couple of pictures if he wants to post them it's OK with me. I tried sending a clip but it takes to long on dial-up. Gesualdo

sent day image to monitor only and the picture was a little sharper. suggestions?

I can't get access to it at night so will tweak it tomorrow and let you know and post pics also.
