Get out your protractors, and sharpen your pencils!

So without seeing the RFPs / bid quote request docs for your day care center..I can't get the scope, difficulty of job and camera/dvr capability requirements..wire run lengths and etc. often times customers do tell me I know someone that can do it for less. Then I simply give them two prices... one for name brand equip, one for off-brand equip. I do tell them that off brand equip comes with a very limited warranty. Then if they still want to low ball a ridulous amount of money, then I suggest to them to use their cheaper vendor. I do say i'm always available for repairs or if something doesnt work out with your other vendor.

Get out your protractors, and sharpen your pencils!

I'll word it like this.... years ago when i first started in CCTV..the only names around I installed were pelco, philips (bosch), samsung, panasonic, sanyo, sensormatic. Now days with a lot of no brand equipment from asia is available, often these nobrand cameras and dvrs can perform just as good if not better than the name brands. When you get a brand name product, you pay for the support and warranty. I installed a 32 camera system previously at a large resturant/bar using off brand cameras and a off brand dvr card into a nice dell rack mount unit. including the wire/j-boxes and minor conduit/wire mold some areas. Total cost for hardware itself was $5500. Labor was $6000, labor was 130 units (hrs).

Neighbor aiming camera directly into my backyard

Short answer - No unless you have other valid & verified reasons to believe your life is being threatened or he has done things to you in the past,. I.E. police reports, photographic video proof. The person you are seeking a restraining order in court will be given a chance to quash your motion for a protective order. He can also in turn sue you in civil court for libel, harassment and recover attorneys fees and return the favor by filing a protective order against you if he can make up some merits. Becareful what you ask for. restraining orders are a double edge sword.

    Wiring Question (inteference or not?)

Yeah the 18/4 is for the power of some of the units housings that have a blower & heater. I wanted to run 18/4 just incase the power from the balun wouldn't be enough. It would be AC power and the client wanted a central power source since it would be hooked up to a large UPS. So would there be interference having unshielded 18/4 wires running right next to the cat5 in the same conduit?
  6. With $1000.. that's not enough to get a decent system going. Q-See is crap. Not sure if your intention is detection or deterance? You'll need a good dvr, power supply, cable, hex crimper and cameras. Pelco and Bosch makes some nice domes for the money and they look good surface mounted. Fixed Camera Domes go anywhere from $50 to $500 depending on the brand, capabilities, lens and etc. Realistically a well built and installed cctv system for a single family occupancy unit costs start $2000.

Neighbor aiming camera directly into my backyard

Your first problem buddy is you have lousy camera hardware. Drop the no name crap and buy a Bosch, Pelco or some brand name fixed camera with a decent 5 -50 mm varifocal lens. Knowing your problems you probably want to invest in a Pelco DF5 or SpectraIV mini ptz dome recessed mounted under the eve/overhang of your house. You can zoom in and he'll never know where the camera is pointed plus they have great night time seeing capabilities. I'm pretty sure a PTZ mounted high enough on your house, somewhere in a attic vent facing out or whatever would catch that guy causing trouble. Goodluck and let us know how it turns out.

Put up a privacy fence on your property. If you can get some proof he's slandering you, you can start a lawsuit. in the united states, there is something called libel and a restraining order/good conduct stay away order Perhaps you can obtain both against him.

    Why buy a 5MP Camera??

5mp camera captures a lot of information and a wide range in clearity compared to analog cameras.

Neighbor aiming camera directly into my backyard

I'm sure that neighbor has good reason to have cameras up. Maybe he has had serious theft, tresspassing and vandalism. Or plain simple the same reason you have cameras...to keep an eye on your property and if anything happens he can kind of tell whom did the acts. How do you know that his cameras are pointed in your direction? The cameras can be looking at other places too. Afterall you failed to have a privacy fence? Which country and state are you in? Now you leveled the playing field buddy, you said you had cameras..aren't you guilty of invading his space too? You should be an adult and have a chat with this guy nicely. Now his grievence is just with you or other people? Put up some nice PTZs, catch him in the act of vandalism.

has anyone ever gotten"free samples" off cctv

If you have a have a retail storefront or office with a showroom. Give the manufacturers rep a call and let them know you want to sit down and talk. It helps when your talking to ask them for displays pieces as you really like the quality of their product and wish to carry their line. Mention you push 1xxx+ per quarter or annually. As a guy with a small 1000. sq. ft. showroom/retail office.. Bosch and Pelco do send a sales person over every quarter or more frequently. If my numbers are down on orders, someone will swing by or call and ask if I need more product marketing materials. I've even received a few spectra Ivs and bosch autodomes just because sales were slow on a particular month. Rule of thumb.. play one manufacturer against the other...i.e. say your going to not carry the other soon....usually get you some freebies.
