  1. Aight, so here's the deal; I work for a security company who's just rising from their ashes. Most of our stuff is all foot/mobile patrolling for some local stuff, nothing too large. Anyways, with some pretty big ideals in mind; we're looking to get into some DVR sort of stuff. Obviously expanding our operations, and I'll be the man to take heed of the IT Department (Which will be the installing, maintaining, blah blah... I'm sure you don't need the life story.) So, after giving Google a quick shot, I was looking for some decent DVR Suppliers (preferably within Canada.) But, I only see "Quotes" or "Price Per Month." Which isn't doing me any good. I'm looking for a supplier I can buy the equipment from, and leave it at that. I don't want to pay them to monitor for me, I don't want to pay them to maintain it for me, I just want to buy the stuff, have myself and my crew install, and monitor from my own computer. Currently one of the contracts I maintain is DVR Monitoring from a remote computer, which is definitely Ideal (Obviously, most DVR's can be accessed via IP/DNS addresses, so that's not a big deal.) I just need someone who's either had some Experience in this field, or with a supplier, that can give me a push in the right direction. Much appreciated. -Jordan.
  2. So to start; Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area, or seems absolutely silly to ask.. But, what exactly is an IP Camera? Is an IP Camera just a mounted camera that routs to a router, and can be viewed via an IP Connection, such as h.t.t.p.:././.CameraIP./. and checking it out? Or is IP Some other kind of Acronym that I'm not getting? In the case that an IP Camera is just a camera that can be accessed via an IP Connection (See above,) then.. What? I thought most Camera's hooked into a DVR Had this capability? I'm completely lost. ; ; If I'm right about IP Cameras, then.. Do some DVR's take IP Cameras? Or, do IP Camera's have their own special DVR, or--yeah. Someone help me out here! I'm completely ignorant to all of this CCTV/DVR stuff. Again, sorry if I sound like the "Cletus, the Hick" of this sort of stuff. ; ; But, I am looking to learn, so--learn me!

    Question about IP Cameras.

    So; The IP Camera; Does it still need a DVR? After doing some research and talking with a supplier, I know that many DVR's themselves basically come with a mini-OS on them that acts as a web server (Usually UNIX/LINUX based.) But, if the IP Camera's themselves have the miniature OS build into them, then would they need a DVR with the same function? It was to my understanding that if the DVR Had the OS/Web server function, any camera could be viewed via IP Connections. At my current contact, we're able to view camera's online buy using an Address in Internet Explorer that looks like; Address/Subfolder/DVRIP_Range-IP_Range.htm?param1=IP/DNS&param2=Port&param3=Channels&param4=_Blank_&param5=_Blank_ So, does that mean the Cameras I'm viewing are all IP Cameras? Or is it just the DVR itself that can take any camera and view it via Address. I'm just curious if in order to view a camera online through a DVR, does it HAVE to be an IP Camera, or how exactly they work. Thanks~

    Employed with company 3 years, refusing to pay me.

    I would suggest editing this out. What do you think? Sorry for butting in, but; I agree with Scorpion on this point (Even if the point is long-past due. Lol.) Regardless of how bad the company screwed you over, their rights should be protected, even after violating yours. --------- On a side note to your situation, I understand that it sucks, I worked for a laptop company that sold refurbished equipment at high prices to make a killing off of uneducated buyers. Their promise to me was all of this commission money that I'd have made (Selling $72,000.00/month) would net me a hefty paycheque (Around $6,000.00 for that month, alone.) and another so much in warranty sales. Because of all of this, I was so excited to get my paycheque at the end of the month, all I could do was brag to my fellow employee's about the money I was going to make. Well.. Because the agreement was verbal (I only signed a paper saying off-commission I was making $10.00/hour) and my paycheque was a meager $600 (bi-weekly pay, commission at the end of the month.) they didn't have to pay me anything, aside from my $10.00/hour. Point being, a verbal contract can't be proven unless it's been recorded, and depending on your province/state there are even laws against that if you're not doing it appropriately. I had do do the same as Scorpion did, and let it roll off of my shoulders. My family and friends know who I worked for and not to go there for business due to their poor ideals in quality, but other than that, I don't think I'd ever slander the company for what they did to me; in fact, I'd almost congratulate them for their brilliance. It's a hard road, but if you can get a suit out of it, obviously take it. Just because it's potentially money-lost, doesn't mean you couldn't use it anyways. Good luck with your suit (I only read the majority of the first page because I'm at work. Sorry if my last comment is out-of-date or anything.) A parting quote; [American History X] -"Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all of the time, it's just not worth it..."

    My Profile and attempt to engage in CCTV Forum...

    Hey man, I'm sorry to hear about your situation, and that you came to a CCTV forum out of a bad situation. I've only browsed the forums for a short while, but -- from what I've noticed with my one post (Aside from the intro, this being my third!) was that people are definitely interested in what you have to say. So, I guess I'm just saying Welcome! ^^; I'm a newbie to CCTV stuff as well. ; ;
