what make/model is the camera? Are they cheap IR bullet cameras? If so, its probably a digital day/night. let us know...

does the user give the tracking parameters, meaning, did the user tell the ptz to stop tracking at a certain point? It seems that the camera could have kept watching and it didn't......just looking for explanation. How does the software work for outdoor applications and parking lots? Weather affect the tracking much?

check out the dedicated micros or the new GE Digia II series DVR's. They are geared towards a more basic "VCR" style functionality with a play, stop, record, fast forward, and rewind type buttons. I think more importantly will be your knowledge and ability to step them thru the DVR as well as a good manual, even if it means you taking the horrible manufacturer manual and creating your own for your customers.

file extension
securitymonster replied to testweight's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
its most likely a proprietary file format meaning you have to use "their" player to view the video. If there is anyway to convert the file to avi, it should be from within the DVR software. -
Good Job! I always tell people that running the cable is our specialty and not to worry about it. You need to take control and let him know what camera needs to go where. As soon as the client starts telling the professional what camera goes where, its all over. Let us know if you have questions on the monitor, you should just run a seperate feed from the DVR back to the monitor for viewing all cameras. If he just wants to view the front door, just use a T connector off the front door camera and go directly into the monitor, assuming the cable run isn't too terribly far.

How many days are you currently getting on that 80gb with motion? You should be able to throw 2 400gb drives in there but there isn't much reference to help. I wouldn't go any larger than 400gb though. Here is a link to the manual if you don't already have it. Towards the end of it, you will find a storage calculator chart. http://www.hisharp.com//Uploads/USERMEMU/20051028150519.pdf

I'm a huge fan of Antec, however changing the fans out is a good idea, their factory fans they throw in those things are noisy as heck!

No but its kind of funny the way they market.... Thumb-screws for easy open side panel Security chassis intrusion detector alerts when the side panel is unexpectedly opened

megapixel cameras and IP cameras
securitymonster replied to blowrabbit's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yes, megapixel cameras are the same type of configuration. But, the cool thing is that most of the megapixel cameras give you the ability to control everything remotely, including iris, day/night switching, resolution, etc... Its pretty neat! -
I can suggest a few things but they are 99% garbage. They are on consumer 2.4ghz frequency which is most commonly used for cell phones, cordless phones, and wireless internet. I would not use a wireless camera, tell him if he wants mickey mouse stuff, goto cosco or walmart.

Problems trying to acess my dvr from outside the network
securitymonster replied to team_player's topic in Computers/Networking
What kind of internet do you have? Sounds like it might be DSL, if thats the case, what model modem do you have? If it is DSL, it probably has the Modem with the built in router and if its not a new model, it will be difficult to do. The easiest way is to bridge the modem but your ISP needs to be setup that way and that can take 2 hours to 5 days. Let us know your internet configuration... -
I usually set it no less than 10 seconds

Video Insight. This is what turned me on in the first place was a client looking for remote access via MAC. The DVR server itself runs on Windows XP Pro. Check out there demo: www.demovi.com -
Merry Christmas from Oregon!

I've confirmed the JDVR series and yes I've used it. I use a different the original manufacturers version, not ARMS, but its the same unit. Good DVR, the only drawback is the adjustment on the frame rate is on the whole unit rather than each channel individually. JPEG2000 compression is good, remote access is good as long as you have good upload, playback is easy, and burning to a CD and playing back on a computer gives pretty nice video. Then unit is made by Argus.

visio has basic cctv built into it. you can also just copy and paste pictures into it.
-
I do not like those cameras one bit, I have yet to have a good experience with those cams. Is it bad playback during all times during the day or mostly in low light?
-
The JDVR series isn't too bad. I haven't had a chance to really play with it so couldn't tell you. But if you ask ARM, they are most proud of their JDVR series.

You need to port forward the Modem from your ISP to your router, then your router will allow you to carry onto the necessary DVR. I'm not familiar with that modem but it probably has a firewall setting and you need to allow port 80 to point to the mac address of the router. This should be pretty simple to do. This is assuming that port 80 is what you want for the DVR. Then just make sure that port 80 on the WRT54G is port forwarded to the DVR.

Does anybody have a PS3? I've been buying and selling them on ebay, I think I've made over $1,000 so far. Good Christmas money!
-
inside cameras for $300 shouldn't be a problem, good outside cams under $300 might present a problem. Check out the Nuvico Line of cameras, I've been pretty happy with them. www.nuvico.com

PS3 is the one you want. Just so you all don't get jealous either. I sold all those PS3's i had and paypal has locked my account. Every PS3 that is sold gets locked for investigation to verify proof of delivery and such. Its a headache. I have over $2K sitting in my paypal account that I can't touch...ahhhh! The ps3 has crazy graphics. Its graphic card is better than any pc based video graphics card on the market today. And not only that, its a blue ray disc video player, those things are $300 plus alone. That and the 720P/1080P video is awesome. The xbox 360.........well, thats so last year. Doesn't even compare. The Wii.....its cool for certain things. I think its geared more towards the kids. Some games are cool and the controllers do some cool things but the graphics aren't all the great and the unit does not even play dvd's. But one cool feature is the ability to go online, create an account using your credit card, and at that point you can download any previous nintendo game ever made, whether it was for Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, etc....I love the old school Excitebike and Zelda, I would buy it just for that! LOL

google earth rocks! I use it alot too. I haven't had anybody walk outside trying to see themselves but some people sure do freak out and start having me input 10 or more addresses.

Any thoughts or opinions on this camera?
securitymonster replied to Karen Love's topic in Security Cameras
Might work for you. CCTVIMPORTS return policy isn't all the great, no matter what they tell you. This is coming from experience. And just to let you know, based on thier quality and customer service, I don't purchase anything from them except a few misc. install pieces. The price for the camera is great, however really do get what you pay for. The plus side in your case on this camera is that your only out $65 so thats not too bad. I'd say give it a shot, make sure when your mounting/installing your camera you treat it like your going to take a photograph. You don't want the light pointed at the camera lens as well as the source of the light in the immediate veiw of the lens. Light is great for cameras but can equally be bad for them if not setup properly. Buying this camera at this price would be "hoping" the camera does the trick. Again, I wouldn't count on using the video recorded from this camera as evidence unless the person happens to be within 3 feet of the camera. Let us know how it goes. -

securitymonster replied to Karen Love's topic in Security Cameras
Its your basic OEM camera. It would be ideal for an indoor application where the lighting was constant. Outdoors it will be okay but won't work well in light changing environments. The lux level is a bit a marketing tool. The low light won't perform quite like you think it will. Its also a fixed wide angle lens. If your looking for general view as well, this might work. But if your looking for any kind of identification, this is not your camera. What are you wanting to use it for?
