RG59 BNC Compresion Connectors
securitymonster replied to Secure_It_Video's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I use compression fittings religously now, they are great. I successfully terminate 97% of them all the time now. Get a good stripper and you should be fine. Also, find a good fitting thats also somewhat inexpensive. I can get my compression fittings for about $0.50 more than my twist ons now. -
motion alert via SMS text message to cell phone?
securitymonster replied to ncpilot's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
do a search on google for email to sms. There are a variety of solutions that may or may not work for you, but basically forward your email to your cell number via sms text message format. -

Do we need to recable a CCTV System after a period of time?
securitymonster replied to chewingyu's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Maybe you can get ahold of some cable testing equipment? If so, you can test each cable independently pretty easily. This makes troubleshooting a bit easier. http://www.test-um.com/product_detail.asp?itemno=CX200 -

Question on Voltage Drop
securitymonster replied to able1's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
390ft shouldn't be an issue. I've installed many cameras running 24V AC, heater/blower/camera powered up with homerun cable runs over 500ft. -
Is there things to avoid when running cables to the cameras?
securitymonster replied to osity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Exactly what isaac said! Also make sure you use conduit if your running underground. I get alot of rural customers that run their own cable and just bury it, then 3 months down the road they are fighting to find the issue, let alone worry about the headache of pulling up the cable and laying it back down. Most RG-59 doesn't want to be bent more than 85 degrees or so, so make sure you don't get sharp bends in the cable. Home run everything if possible and centralize your equipment. If running long distances, you may need RG6. Run condiut for any runs you may do down the road. For example, running conduit from the basement to the attic makes it easy down the road if needed. -
Open Cash Register Drawer Remotely
securitymonster replied to Jimlyn's topic in Computers/Networking
I'm not aware of a DVR that will allow you to trigger a cash box. Usually, the POS overlay is a just a box stealing the data from the printer and overlaying on the DVR screen. Depending on how his POS is setup, if its on a PC he might be able to setup remote access and get into his POS remotely and then trigger the cash box. Not sure, this is kind of a unique request. You might also call the POS manufacturer to get some input. -

Video Insight products
securitymonster replied to ncpilot's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Video Insight has not changed. They have never sold to end users nor are they going to start. If you call them up, they can point you in the right direction to find the closest dealer. This is in your best interest as you can also get local support on the card. They have a link to find your local dealer on their page. They still sell just the cards if thats what your looking for. One cool thing is that Video Insight offers end user support with registration of their products. This is a huge plus! -
Do you get higher resolution by setting your cam to B&W?
securitymonster replied to osity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You typically get a higher resolution when using B/W but really depends on the camera. Some cameras are True day/night cameras giving you a great B/W picture and some are Fake day/night cameras, which give you a grainy B/W picture as the color is digitally filtered out. Getting faces is tough to do! You need to be strategic with both camera placement and camera selection. Ideally, for good facial recognition, you will want 40% of the monitor filled with the face. What model camera are you using? -
Cable question Combination Power and Video Cables
securitymonster replied to Arockerdude's topic in System Design
Just run Siamese RG-59 for the video and power, then run cat5 for the protocol to operate the PTZ function. -
You can also look into Video Insight. They have cards and also have a 4 channel box that hooks up via USB to any computer. www.video-insight.com

Has anybody ever used these 2 into 1 Video Senders? They claim they can send 2 video signals over a single coax! Think this would work with wireless as well?

Proposed 4 Cam Home System - Feedback Requested
securitymonster replied to Mr_Funk's topic in System Design
Should work for you. Just know that you can't gaurantee identification especially with only 2 cameras out front. The more wide angel you get, the less detail you will get on the image, especially recorded video that is compressed. Around here, with home break ins and car vandalism/theft, we typically cover the front of the house alone with one camera per car in the driveway, so if there is 2 cars, we are putting 2 cameras up, one per car. One cam at the front door, a cam for each side of the house, and maybe 1 overall front yard cam. its important to be strategic when placing them! -
application trends rapidly evolving!!!!!!
securitymonster replied to jisaac's topic in General Digital Discussion
Nice to see you venture out. Do you think its really a trend or more of something that comes your way now that you support it? What is your most common type of application for using perceptrak? What kind of business have you seen using it? What is the smallest business you've seen use it and why did they want it? How is it working for them? -
Do some research. There is alot of information on this forum including a search function! As for your setup, you will most likely need a new PC configured specifically for your recording. This has been proved to work best for maximum operating time. The last thing you want is for your surveillance system to be down. You can either look for a standalone DVR or a PC based DVR. You might benefit from a pre-conifigured PC based DVR as well as you can get support on the pc/software from the same person, rather than getting the run around wondering if its memory or something in the softwares database going bonkers. The biggest help you'll get............grab your phone book, lookup "Security" in the yellow pages, and call a few people out for free quote. Get your system done professionally and get it done right the first time. Some things to ask when they come out for the FREE bid: Warranty Battery Backup Demo of Equipment Nightime Image Quality While most people decide soley on budget, try to take the numbers out of the game. You want a good reliable system, great support, and something that is going to really work for your application. Hope this helps.....

Will this samsung LCD TV work for viewing my cameras?
securitymonster replied to Arockerdude's topic in System Design
STICKY! -
Depending on your cable, you may need to filter out the cable for a group of channels so that you can broadcast on that particular channel. Channel Vision has all kinds of guides for you to understand better. The Check out this link: http://channelvision.com/index/82 The CVT 1 Mini III is a good unit. Its 1 input in so you could run the video out off a dvr and distribute to all the TV's in the house. There is lots of ways to do it, so you need to decide what your doing and how you want to view it. You might try calling channel vision too!

Will this samsung LCD TV work for viewing my cameras?
securitymonster replied to Arockerdude's topic in System Design
An LCD will not give you as good of a picture as a standard box style CRT monitor. The consumer grade LCD usually isn't sufficient as far as quality goes for most people. If you want LCD, spend the money and get the hi-res security specific LCD monitors. Your best bet is to buy local from a store with a killer return policy. -
The swann may get the job done but I don't know how well or more importantly, how long! If the VCR could handle being in that enclosure, the DVR should be equally fine. Not sure what fits your budget but its probably going to be some OEM type DVR. I have sold some non branded samsung units for pretty inexpensive that some clients have been happy with. Just be sure to get a live demo before you purchase. Have them record you with the unit you would be purchasing and then playback the video.
