    RG59 BNC Compresion Connectors

I use compression fittings religously now, they are great. I successfully terminate 97% of them all the time now. Get a good stripper and you should be fine. Also, find a good fitting thats also somewhat inexpensive. I can get my compression fittings for about $0.50 more than my twist ons now.

  7. Maybe you can get ahold of some cable testing equipment? If so, you can test each cable independently pretty easily. This makes troubleshooting a bit easier. http://www.test-um.com/product_detail.asp?itemno=CX200

    Question on Voltage Drop

390ft shouldn't be an issue. I've installed many cameras running 24V AC, heater/blower/camera powered up with homerun cable runs over 500ft.
  11. Exactly what isaac said! Also make sure you use conduit if your running underground. I get alot of rural customers that run their own cable and just bury it, then 3 months down the road they are fighting to find the issue, let alone worry about the headache of pulling up the cable and laying it back down. Most RG-59 doesn't want to be bent more than 85 degrees or so, so make sure you don't get sharp bends in the cable. Home run everything if possible and centralize your equipment. If running long distances, you may need RG6. Run condiut for any runs you may do down the road. For example, running conduit from the basement to the attic makes it easy down the road if needed.

    Open Cash Register Drawer Remotely

I'm not aware of a DVR that will allow you to trigger a cash box. Usually, the POS overlay is a just a box stealing the data from the printer and overlaying on the DVR screen. Depending on how his POS is setup, if its on a PC he might be able to setup remote access and get into his POS remotely and then trigger the cash box. Not sure, this is kind of a unique request. You might also call the POS manufacturer to get some input.

    Video Insight products

Video Insight has not changed. They have never sold to end users nor are they going to start. If you call them up, they can point you in the right direction to find the closest dealer. This is in your best interest as you can also get local support on the card. They have a link to find your local dealer on their page. They still sell just the cards if thats what your looking for. One cool thing is that Video Insight offers end user support with registration of their products. This is a huge plus!
  15. You typically get a higher resolution when using B/W but really depends on the camera. Some cameras are True day/night cameras giving you a great B/W picture and some are Fake day/night cameras, which give you a grainy B/W picture as the color is digitally filtered out. Getting faces is tough to do! You need to be strategic with both camera placement and camera selection. Ideally, for good facial recognition, you will want 40% of the monitor filled with the face. What model camera are you using?

Proposed 4 Cam Home System - Feedback Requested

Should work for you. Just know that you can't gaurantee identification especially with only 2 cameras out front. The more wide angel you get, the less detail you will get on the image, especially recorded video that is compressed. Around here, with home break ins and car vandalism/theft, we typically cover the front of the house alone with one camera per car in the driveway, so if there is 2 cars, we are putting 2 cameras up, one per car. One cam at the front door, a cam for each side of the house, and maybe 1 overall front yard cam. its important to be strategic when placing them!

    application trends rapidly evolving!!!!!!

Nice to see you venture out. Do you think its really a trend or more of something that comes your way now that you support it? What is your most common type of application for using perceptrak? What kind of business have you seen using it? What is the smallest business you've seen use it and why did they want it? How is it working for them?

    cctv help

Do some research. There is alot of information on this forum including a search function! As for your setup, you will most likely need a new PC configured specifically for your recording. This has been proved to work best for maximum operating time. The last thing you want is for your surveillance system to be down. You can either look for a standalone DVR or a PC based DVR. You might benefit from a pre-conifigured PC based DVR as well as you can get support on the pc/software from the same person, rather than getting the run around wondering if its memory or something in the softwares database going bonkers. The biggest help you'll get............grab your phone book, lookup "Security" in the yellow pages, and call a few people out for free quote. Get your system done professionally and get it done right the first time. Some things to ask when they come out for the FREE bid: Warranty Battery Backup Demo of Equipment Nightime Image Quality While most people decide soley on budget, try to take the numbers out of the game. You want a good reliable system, great support, and something that is going to really work for your application. Hope this helps.....

    MODULATOR help

Depending on your cable, you may need to filter out the cable for a group of channels so that you can broadcast on that particular channel. Channel Vision has all kinds of guides for you to understand better. The Check out this link: http://channelvision.com/index/82 The CVT 1 Mini III is a good unit. Its 1 input in so you could run the video out off a dvr and distribute to all the TV's in the house. There is lots of ways to do it, so you need to decide what your doing and how you want to view it. You might try calling channel vision too!

Will this samsung LCD TV work for viewing my cameras?

An LCD will not give you as good of a picture as a standard box style CRT monitor. The consumer grade LCD usually isn't sufficient as far as quality goes for most people. If you want LCD, spend the money and get the hi-res security specific LCD monitors. Your best bet is to buy local from a store with a killer return policy.

    replacing vcr

The swann may get the job done but I don't know how well or more importantly, how long! If the VCR could handle being in that enclosure, the DVR should be equally fine. Not sure what fits your budget but its probably going to be some OEM type DVR. I have sold some non branded samsung units for pretty inexpensive that some clients have been happy with. Just be sure to get a live demo before you purchase. Have them record you with the unit you would be purchasing and then playback the video.
