A Good Spot Monitor
securitymonster replied to kandcorp's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yes, I got mine from Northern Video (# MNB1001), but you can find them pretty much anywhere!!! I use the B/W, mostly because I don't need the color but the color is like 3 times the price. -
A Good Spot Monitor
securitymonster replied to kandcorp's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
For the most general jobs, I use a 1" B/W Service type monitor that runs on "AAA" batteries. I can easily get angles and do some basic focus if needed. It has a lanyard so I can just hang it from my neck! -
Northern Video Rocks! I get alot of equipment from them and they always do me good on price and customer service! Feel free to PM for a contact over there!!!

You’ll find that a lot in a budget DVR. I have come across a few that offer Motion Recording, but it in fact is a continuous record with motion events. So instead of recording when there is motion, it just always records and gives you a log of motion events for playback purposes. Make sure it states "Motion Activated Recording" and not just "Motion Recording" I have seen this in a few budget 4 Channel systems on the market.

What about using a RTOS type standalone box with a built in web server. If they primarily use MAC computers, will they be able to view these over the net? Will their standard browser work? Then, what about client software, is most client software pc/mac compatible or just pc compatible?

Toshiba IK-WB02A
securitymonster replied to securitymonster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The camera works great and its functionality is awesome but its only JPEG compression, and thats just eating the bandwidth..... Hopefully running 15 of these on a 40MB network to a DVR will work. What do you guys think? -

I'm also going to play with its built in SD Card option as it has built in motion. I have a warehouse at a remote location that gets little to no action but would be nice to find something cost effective. Otherwise I would need to go wireless and a Tx/Rx retails for about $1,000 What 4-9mm lens would you recommend for this? I'm also assuming that this camera is a "digital" day/night. Agree? Have you heard of Toshibas "NetCam DVR" Service? They handle all the recording for a monthly fee!!!! And.....how does POE work, how many pair does IP cams need? 2 pair, just like internet? Then POE uses 1 pair, leaving 1 pair "empty"? -
Did you ever get a refund? I stopped using CCTVIMPORTS after my first couple orders with them. They sell the same cameras that you can find anywhere else. They don't manufacture a thing and they make money. Make sure you get refunded all your shipping money, all of it! They are moving into a big huge "NEW" warehouse next month, they can afford it!

I'm not sure if you can use a consumer grade video camera or not, you might google that one! As far as the cctv side of things, you can get a 4 channel standalone dvr. Be sure that it is networkable and that it records audio as well. The audio is going to eat your hard drive up fast, so make sure you get a dvr that will allow multiple drives. I would also recommend seperate mics for the audio and not getting a camera with built in audio, for quality reasons. Then you will 4 cameras of course. Depending on the area you are wanting to record really depends on what type of cameras you need. rough estimated prices: 4 Channel Networkable DVR w/Audio - $1500 Hard Drive - Figure $1/Per GB at most 4 Cameras - $100-$300/ea Misc Cable/Power/Connectors - $100-$150 Then you just need to have high speed internet at the location of the DVR so you can access via the internet. Setting all this up is like hooking up a VCR to the TV. The hardest part will be running the cable, and thats just a matter of it looking pretty! Hope this helps.

Different laws apply to different states but most times I come accross people wanting to "catch" the people in the act. While most times catching this person will stop the problem, it isn't always 100% effective. What I'm getting to is that even though you caught this person in the act, you can't prove they stole prior to that event. Most times throwing up a visible camera will both deter the theif as well as catch somebody if it still happens.

Microtek has been around for almost 20 years, and all their stuff is manufactured is California, 100% USA. The more I read about their wireless ethernet stuff the more I'm impressed! The prices are def. not "COP" prices by any means....plus the housings are powder coated billet aluminum. If anybody is interested in this stuff, call Microtek direct and they are awesome with support and will help you spec out the job. I'd recommend talking to Tim Johnson.

I have to agree with you AV, I've talked to a couple of distro's and they say the same thing, that Microtek is the "easiest" to deal with and that they are very understanding! Hopefully I'll get some stuff in and let you guys know how it went... Thanks for the input folks!
