I went to home depot and stocked up on tools for my techs, anything from ratchet screwdrivers, dewalt drill/driver sets, box knives, etc. Everything was cheap, the dewalt drill/driver set was only $10

Getting Black screen using Panasonic WVNS202
securitymonster replied to gcoolw's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think its hit and miss, however I was having some issues with an NS202 and some NP1004 cameras, I talked to Panasonic tech support and thats what they suggested I do. -
Two thumbs up for Extreme! Thats the only product we use for LPR.

Getting Black screen using Panasonic WVNS202

You are most likely running Internet Explorer version 7. Panasonic is compatible with IE6 or less, remove IE7 and install IE6 and you should be fine. -
help needed from the pro's - DVR and PTZ
securitymonster replied to f05bf1c2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Most name brand DVR's like Panasonic, Bosch, GE, etc. will do that out of the box, especially when you run the same brand joystick controller. Its when you run inexpensive gear, off-brand equipment, and 3rd party controllers that you run into issues. It can be done, but its not as streamline. -
Looks like a Lorex or something cheap. You can usually find cameras like that at small electronic shops, Wal-Marts, and Costco's.

has anyone used the Pelco IP access control product
securitymonster replied to jeromephone's topic in General Access Control Discussion
I ran a demo on the Pelco IP access control stuff, I wasn't too impressed. The user interface was clunky, and not too user friendly. I don't think I would run it. The Edge Solo devices from HID are nice, however you cannot link the 3 doors together and your client would have to manage each one individually. Off the record, you can backup the database from one door and restore on the new door but its hit and miss. -
I look at the heater/blower as insurance. The cost of a housing with heater/blower and the cost of a housing without a heater/blower is very minor. Most clients of ours have no problem paying the difference when they understand what the housing is doing for their investment. But, we need them here in Oregon anyways...

Q-See is bottom of the barrel, you might as well pick up 2 or 3 of them as you'll need that many to last as long as a brand name DVR.

Motion Flood Light Question ???
securitymonster replied to deathcharge's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You can build your own floodlight setup, using a shock sensor and some relays! -
Glad I could help!

The current JDVR (manufactured by Argus) is a dual codec unit, JPEG2000 for local recording, H.264 for remote transmission. Its on units with version 1.16 and has been for about 12 months.

You don't have to use iTunes. I use a program called Yamipod, the self executable file is stored on iPod and whenever I goto somebodies house and want to "borrow" music, I just hookup the usb cable, open the iPod drive, open Yamipod, then drag-n-drop the files! How do you think all those guys got into trouble storing valuable business information on their ipods a few years back, you don't think they used iTunes did you?

turn "Sens Up" off make sure SD3 is ON and adjust the level around "100" set DNR to low on B/W Auto1, set the level to "low" and the duration to 10 seconds, be sure to turn Burst "off" as well.

The JDVR, is that a JPEG2000 unit? If so, I would go with that any day over the Clover. The clover is just bottom of the barrel equipment and it won't last long.

What to charge for installation?
securitymonster replied to megaserve's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
We bill at an hourly rate but every job differs. We walk, measure, and project each job on site or with plans. The same 4 camera system installed in a small convenient store will not be quoted the same installation as the same 4 camera system in a warehouse. You have to take account for the time you will spend out there, including getting on a ladder, what kind of material you will be anchoring to, how high you will need to get, maybe the use of a lift, etc. Without even looking at the project details, this could easily be a 16 hour job, 2 guys could possibly knock it out in one day. -
What is the best camera for my budget
securitymonster replied to djkyle65's topic in Security Cameras
I would vote for the KPC-N600H1, I believe the Nuvico camera will give you a better picture but those cameras just don't last but more than a few years before you experience problems. The N600 is a good camera for the money. They claim to get IR up to 65 feet and its not quite that far, but if you have adequate light, the camera should see just fine! -
Best Practice for Running Cable from building to pole
securitymonster replied to dthompson's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Is wireless in the budget? Otherwise I think your on the right track. We've done plent of aerials, but they are normally 30-40ft max. -
I love my iphone, its great, does everything I need and then some. Plus with the SDK we can build quoting software into our phone!

I use the following in this order: Scansource Security Group One NW Northern Video ADI Tri Ed ADI and Tri Ed have incredibly high prices and they don't always work with you. Scansource seams to beat everybodies prices and offer free shipping on everything, they stock virtually everything, my rep rocks, and thier online system is great for ordering, billing, tracking orders, etc.

Industry standard cabling
securitymonster replied to Team Loco's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Cat5 can sometimes cost more in the long run, especially if you use good equipment. You will still need small BNC patch cables to go from the UTP hub to the DVR. The last job we quoted from RG59 to Cat5 option was $3,000 more, for 15 cameras.
