    H.264 Stand Alone

Yes, stick with ICRealtime. The quality and price doesn't get any better in my opinion. I've ran some H.264 units from Argus and I wasn't impressed.
  3. I can't recall on the SD card size. I think we got away with a 4GB SD card, but updated firmware may allow for an 8GB SD card. I think the 4GB and 8GB are the same size so you could always try it? As for a camera, we had a covert application that we used this in and we ended up using a KT&C WDR board camera. It worked very well in low light, produced decent pictures in high contrast times of the day, and produced true color with crisp lines. Overall, we were happy and our client was extremely happy. Your application would probably most benefit from a finger style bullet camera. You can get away with a fairly cheap camera, sub $150. If you want daytime, go with a good color camera. If your looking for evening shots, just get a B/W as you'll get good performance during the day and night depending on light of course. However, as everyone is aware, you don't get that color distinction with a B/W, allowing you to say it was a red car or a blue car that pulled down your driveway. As for motion detection configuration, I don't recall there being an option to mask out areas on the screen. And yes, the movement of shadows will trigger the recording as its still a change of pixels. You can however adjust the sensitivity and that should help alot. That is why we suggest the largest size memory card.
  4. Panasonic has a new MPEG-4/JPEG video encoder with video analytics, but I haven't seen a camera with the built in analytics. http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=221687&catGroupId=14770&surfModel=WJ-NT314 If your looking for a camera with built in analytics, check out www.videoiq.net
  5. What model number? We have used the MPE1009 and they are great little units. Decent battery life and better than expected video quality. Just be sure to get the largest size memory card that is compatible with the unit.

4 channel mobile DVR with rechargable batteries

I think power is an easy solution as they make good inverters that you can hardwire to a vehicle and achieve the power requirements for just about any DVR. Your biggest issue is going to be shock protection for the DVR if you end up using a standard type IDE or SATA hard drive. I don't have a mobile solution off the top of my head but I'll see what my guys can drum up. Some of the other guys will soon enough chime in with some options! I do however know that ARM electronics has a Mobile 12 volt 4 Channel DVR with audio and GPS that MSRP's at around $1,250.00. Part # MDVR4A80GPS, I would be a little hesitant as its ARM and they DVR's haven't been known as "reliable".

why doesnt my usb cable get recognized

Yes, there are "A" male to "A" male type usb cables. Do you have a manual and if so, does it state what cable to use? You may also need to load some software/drivers on your computer as well.

IR dome cameras tell me what you think

The EX40 should do the trick, just install it correctly and you will be fine. Anytime you can remove the IR from the camera your better off which your already aware of. This sounds like its a temporary installation with 1 goal in mind. The EX40 will do the trick just fine!

    WDR / PIXIM

Yup, like the others say, use a Panasonic WV-CP484 series camera. Anytime we need a WDR camera, its a CP484! Hands down the best WDR camera we have seen. Plus you can adjust some of the SDIII settings and customize it to your environment.

4 channel mobile DVR with rechargable batteries

Thats going to be a tough one. Most mobile devices that are battery operated are single channel recorders, and your lucky to get 8 hours of operation on a single charge of batteries. Whats your application? Maybe we can point you in the right direction if we can further understand your project.

If your on a budget, check out the Flex series of ICRealtime units or the Argus JPEG2000 units, also rebranded as Samsung.

    Drop ceiling mounts

The PDM9 from Panasonic comes in 2x2 or 2x4 versions. You'll also pay a premium for Panasonic but its good stuff! The above picture that "rapid" posted is available from Wren however I think Videolarm manufactures the item as they do a variety of mounts for various vendors. http://www.videolarm.com

    Best Recorded Playback Under $500?

Only spending $500 is a huge risk. I wouldn't recommend a $500 DVR if you intend to use it for video evidence.

Have you looked into aiphone equipment? They might not be exactly what your looking for but you might call them with your needs and they could probably help you out.

    Covi Sec advert

The units are manufactured by Argus. The JPEG2000 units are great and we use them in residential applications. The new units are dual codec so the internet view is compressed with H.264 for better transmission. Nice little units and very reliable.

    IP Enabled Alarm System

We are an alarm.com dealer and its awesome. Yes there is a monthly service plan but that also pays for your cell phone data charges that it uses. You can do a whole lot more on the alarm.com than you can on the Visonic Powerlink adapter. Plus the powerlink is a bit expensive.

Recommended 8 Ch DVR for Retail store

$1000 for an 8 channel DVR in a retail application does not leave you much room for quality. At that price your going to be picking up a budget level DVR. Will it work? Yes Will you be happy with it? Maybe, if you haven't had a DVR before Will it last? For about a year or two Remote Access? Yes, but probably limited to viewing with no admin management. In that price range I would definitely stay away from Swann and Q-See, those brands are very elementary and will give you lots of problems. I don't know how many of those units we have replaced recently. My honest opinion would be to look at getting a few more dollars. Check out ICRealtime for more info, at the very least their Flex series DVR's are good units for the money and you'll get a whole lot more for your money. ICRealtime @ www.icrealtime.com

    HELP!! Arecont 3130

Your best shot to get the Arecont cameras working is to call Arecont and talk to tech support. They could step you through the setup process very quickly over the phone as opposed to numerous posts back and forth on the forum here. Arecont @ 818-937-0700 As for the camera itself, I think you should really try and get this working. You will be very impressed with the camera and I think once you get the video working that you will not want to send them back. Also, a hybrid DVR can be found in a variety of places. One avenue to look is Video Insight. They have a decent analog solution and I believe their IP solution handles the Arecont 3130 series cameras.
