Need advice for a new 4-Cam DVR System
securitymonster replied to tprekas's topic in Security Cameras
Here is the breakdown: Low Resolution DVR @ $1200 High Resolution DVR @ $2000 Bullet Cameras @ $200/each Dome Cameras @ $350/each Power Supply @ $150 Cable @ $200 Misc Cable/Connectors @ $30 Install @ $1000 Total of $3,530 to $4,330 So yes, around $2500 or so you could make it happen and I would estimate the system to last 3-5 years. But keep in mind most of the cameras used will have 1 to 2 year warranty at the most. Also note, we would install 4 exterior cameras on a typical home for around $850. -
icrealtime pro8 vs panasonic wj-rt 208
securitymonster replied to deserteaglexxx's topic in Digital Video Recorders
not true panaonsic has had their ability to record in 4 cif for a while now. The point my rep was making that untill recently panasonics resolution was not as important to the panasonic people as much as the bells and whistles were. ps. rory has helped so many people here, so i wouldnt pick on him too much. I am not picking on him. I just get sick of him dogging the icrealtime dvr when he has not even got to get his hands on one. I think its not to much to ask to give an honest review of something. Not ," use THIS and not THAT even though I have never used THAT". Other than how he feels about it on the forum I have yet to hear any legitimate reason as to why he beats on ICrealtime like they owe him money. Hey, why dont you demo him one for a day or two for his opinon ? Have you ever shipped a 20lb item to the Bahamas? An easy $100 plus to get there correctly...not to mention the cost Rory would pay his government! -
Need advice for a new 4-Cam DVR System

Do you have a costco in your area? You can but a 4 channel system for around $1000. I wouldn't recommend it but this is your best bet to meet your budget. Keep in mind you will probably be replacing this unit in less than 2 years due to cheap electronic equipment. Otherwise your looking at about an equipment price of $3500 or so to do this right, with installation on top of that! -
GE Digia II Series of MPEG-4 Digital Video Recorders
securitymonster replied to 313-313's topic in Digital Video Recorders
It was okay, I beta tested the unit and wasn't overly impressed. The user access was a bit strenuous. I thought the graphical interface, configuring, and playback controls could have been easier but oh well. It is MPEG-4 compression and it wasn't bad. I can probably get my unit back online if you'd like to take a look. -
Have you tried just pressing "enter" without entering a code?

Are you locked out of any button or just the menu?

good solid wireless connection for two cameras
securitymonster replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Most likely you'll want to use 5.8ghz. Keep in mind your customer is going to pay around $3K per unit and you'll need one unit per camera! http://www.microtekelectronics.com/ or http://www.trangobroadband.com/ Both Microtek and Trango will help you spec out a job and give you complete parts needed with manufacturer part numbers. -

If we both went into the same business selling the same thing, why would that person buy from you instead of me? -
icrealtime pro8 vs panasonic wj-rt 208
securitymonster replied to deserteaglexxx's topic in Digital Video Recorders
In my experience using both units, the ICRealtime is far superior in image quality, remote access, and compression compared to the Panasonic. Don't get me wrong, I would put more customer into the 300 series from Panasonic first, but as a direct comparison I would choose the ICR. I have zero complaints on the ICRealtime nor do some security industry folks that have used countless ICR units... You should try it before you knock it! Talk to Andrew, he'll hook you up! -
icrealtime pro8 vs panasonic wj-rt 208
securitymonster replied to deserteaglexxx's topic in Digital Video Recorders
The ICRealtime and Panasonic are the same units, except for the compression. ICR uses H.264 and Pano uses MPEG-4. In a direct comparison, I liked the ICR version better. Another difference is the built in web client. The ICR has a built in web client allowing you to view remotely with just IE and the Pano does not. I have put a few clients into the RT208 from Pano and quickly switched them out to the 300 series from Pano. If it was between the ICR Pro and Pano RT208, I would choose the ICR Pro. -

BULLET CAMERA INSTALLATION
securitymonster replied to drewliebs's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If you use the box like Rory mentioned, you could use this mount from Panavise to mount right to the gang box. -
what about all the vinyl stickers representing your company? do you have those on order yet?

Its been my experience that Passive baluns are junk, if your going to use Cat5, use active baluns.
-
Exactly, I think they are made by Patinum Tools...I'll check tomorrow. Our guys use them and they aren't bad, maybe $50 for the tool. The tool is what is special, it cuts the extra cable out th end of the EZ RJ-45 connector.

You will daisy chain the PTZ controls....what DVR and cameras are you using?

performance challenge to dvr card manufactures
securitymonster replied to coolcut's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
It is tough to take a software compression related card and record 720x480 at full frame rate, especially when you have 10 plus cameras. The software compression is so resource hungry! I don't completely agree. I've also personally had the best luck with pre-configured PC based systems as opposed to building your own using the manufacturers capture card. -
has anyone made or found a really good covert cam ....

Have you tried any cameras from www.KJBSecurity.com ? I've had good luck with their covert products. -

Why can't I read this license plate?
securitymonster replied to megavolt512's topic in Security Cameras
Panasonic options... 1st Choice: WV-CW484S Dome 2nd Choice: WV-CF294 Dome Its going to be hard to capture a plate without a license plate specific camera. I would say your chances are in the 6% range. You have too many things against you, including the DVR. -
Why can't I read this license plate?
securitymonster replied to megavolt512's topic in Security Cameras
There are many things to think about here... 1) 480 TV Lines is not "High Resolution" 2) Nuvico is not the best for good video 3) The recorded video is being compressed 4) The license plate is maybe 5% at most of the entire picture, your gonna need it to be better than 60% to actively identify the plate. 5) This is not a license plate camera Did you install this yourself or did somebody install this for you claiming it would read plates? Your next step is to purchase a license plate recognition camera from Extreme CCTV. -

eBay DVR's!!!Prices YOU WONT BELIEVE!!!
securitymonster replied to Agent_Jay23's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Great find! Hope they work out for you and yes you can find deals on eBay every now and then. But.... I would never sell a "used" DVR to a client nor would they appreciate purchasing a used DVR. Typically in the business world, when something is discounted, there is a reason. For obvious reasons, I rely heavily on the manufacturer warranty for those "just in case" reasons. Especially when there is a 3 year warranty. Example...If your used DVR fails on you 2 months down the road, you will be responsible for replacing the unit. How are you going to do so without a warranty? You will have to purchase another one. This is going to cost you a lot more out of pocket.
