Hello all, I just got my Symdec today. I hooked up the monitor and powered it up and low an behold Drive 1 has a failure. It is toast. I have spoken with the company that I bought it from and he will either refund me the cost of a new 500g hard drive or order me another. My question is that the hard drive that is used is WD5000YS. How much are they retail? Should I have him just refund me 150.00 and buy another used HD? The unit works fine when I disconnected the HD. Just show only 3 being used. Am I able to use 1TB Hard Drives?

I just checked with Western Digital. The hard drive is still under warrenty. I should be getting a new one next week.

The unit was purchased used. (I got a great deal on it). The hard drive most likely failed cause of the great care UPS takes with its packages. When you powered it up you could hear the drive clicking away. All I did was pwered down and disconnected it. I have tested the video and all other settings. Everything works fine. I am able to view through Symbrowser and Symnav. I have loaded the latest firmware on it. From what you have said I will just wait and get a couple of 1.5tb drive for it. Is there anything special that I need to look for? TIA Denver

Ok. So we are upgrading from a 6ch to a 16ch dvr. We will be using a GE SymDec16-2t DVR. Currently we have 6 Sharp ccd dome cameras. I believe they are 320 lines. I have a budget of around 1500 to either replace everything or just buy 10 more cams. I want 5 outdoor (currently have just 1). The rest are indoors. No runs over 100'. I do not need PTZ. I have no problem buying used if I have to. I would prefer them to have night vision. Doesn't have to be great. I am looking for suggestions for my budget. Thanks in advance....

$1500.00 US is for cameras only. I have already bought the DVR.

Well I just bought a GE Security SymDec 16-2t for 1688.00. I will now go to the camera section for my further question......

I am in need of replacing a 16 channel linux based dvr. We only had 6 sony cameras being used and will be looking for 10 more. 2 outdoor and 8 inside. I am more interested in good quality pictures rather than a brand name. I have looked into a used Pelco system but am worried about dependability. There is a Pelco DX8116-750 DVR on ebay with 11 Peak cameras model CMD525A549 for 3k. Most of the recording will be well lit. I need the ability of internet viewing.

30fps would be fine. I do not have a pc. I may consider a stand alone dvr as long as I can log in remotely. There is a Bosch Divar DVR16H2302 on ebay now for 1700.00 that I am researching. It seems to have everything that I need.
