Dedicated Micros DS2 DX16C bad harddisk

Recommended Posts

Our retirement community has a clubhouse with indoor & outdoor pool and tennis courts. A DS2 DX16C with 10 cameras was installed by the builder for monitoring.

A few days ago a board member wanted to review video and found a message on the monitor: "disk problem - may be wrong fat version - suggest using monitor to reformat disk". I became involved because in my business I work with PCs and PC based and embedded systems in SAN equipment.

I download updated software from the Dedicated Micros web site in the hope that I can re-install it to the harddrive.

I found your forum using google search and hope your members can provide technical help or advice on where to get the problem resolved.

Here the analysis I have done so far:

1. Removed the 80GB maxtor ide disk and attached to a PC using an ide to usb adapter. Other then some clicking at power-up the disk is dead.

2. Installed a 120GB seagate as master with a 32GB FAT32 primary partition. Now get further to IDE test completed and bootloader fail message. This shows disk is recognized by system. Deleted partition from disk to return to first state. i.e disk problem - may be wrong fat...

3. Connect to DS2 using a serial cable (using information from previous post "Replacing Hard Drive Dedicated Micros D4"

Connected a null modem serial cable and ethernet crossover cable. Using hyperterminal at 19200 8N1 got to the ?:> prompt. Entered 'up towngirl' to get to monitor level 1.

4. Setting the ip address

The video monitoring was done using a monitor mounted above the DS2. To my knowledge the ethernet connection was not used and the ip address

was never configured.

First check what the current ip address is.

?:>ip show

IP address 111.111.111.111

IP subnet mask 255.255.255.255

IP default gateway 000.000.000.000

The subnet mask seems odd as only one address would be in the subnet.

Attempt to set the ip address.

?:>ip set 192.168.2.99.255.255.255.0.192.168.2.1

IP address 192.168.002.099

IP subnet mask 255.255.255.255

IP default gateway 000.000.000.000

The ip address has changed but not the mask or gateway.

Tried using network on/off in combination with ip set but saw no change.

Tried to ping the ip address with no response.

Also tried using the ftp program with the software download and it timed out without getting a response.

At this point I have run out of things to do.

Any suggestions or advice on how to proceed will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
