genealle 0 Posted November 12, 2004 Anyone make a DVR that you can dial into via telco? If so: I suppose you would need some client software loaded on the dialing PC? Can you play old files or only current activity? Can you PTZ? Thanks, Gene
McJannet 0 Posted November 13, 2004 Gene: I'm familiar with Kalatel. There are others. 1. Client software is WaveReader, available free of charge from GE website. 2. Can do anything, very much influenced by slow POTS connection though. 3. PTZ is available, but difficult due to lag. Presets are preferred with POTS. There is a fair amount of previous discussion on WaveReader in this forum. Regards: Dave
AVCONSULTING 0 Posted November 13, 2004 The best one on the market is still the old standby Telexper system. They were originally designed to be the most efficient DVR using POTS. Hardly any DVRs these days are good with POTS since they aren't designed to utilize the narrow bandwidth allowed. You can still get the Telexper's although they aren't cheap. http://www.telexper.com/
heloder 0 Posted November 13, 2004 you could use a router with dialup support
rory 0 Posted November 13, 2004 I have used the GE Kalatel DVR with POTS. Though it is slower than IP, it is still PTP dial in from a standard phone line, which is cool. I have a couple customers using the RSM-1600 for this reason, and another the WaveReader to a DVR. Ofcourse if you rememeber the video phone reports from the initial Iraq war ... it is slower than that. Rory
genealle 0 Posted November 15, 2004 Thanks to all! Kalatel seems to be a pretty popular mfg on this newsgroup. Any recs on who to buy from? (I'm not yet in the biz, but a couple of fellas I know are doing well with alarms and want to add CCTV to their offerings. They asked me if I would want to help ramp up that part of the business since I have a video & PC background.)
