Geo system advice needed

Recommended Posts

Took a look at a job today. There are currently 16 cameras, all different makes. Pc based system with a geo card with the lowest recording fps, and no live view. Pc is a p4 dell with xp and 256 ram. All done with cat 5 and baluns. Very sloppy, but actually works and doesn't look half bad, except no live view. Customer wants to add 10 more cameras. I use Nuvico for my cameras, so will prob go with the Nuvixo hi res domes. Never used cat 5 with baluns, but since they did might give it a try because it will be so much easier to pull. I'll double up on the power lines. My main question is, since i cannot access the geovision website, can I add another 16 port geo card to the pc which is already running a 16 port card. I would like to add a 480 fps card and possibly replace the other card to a 480 fps, but I'm not sure if the pc can handle 2 cards. I would also like to upgrade the ram to 2gb because it should help. What do you think? Any suggestions? I have never done a pc system, always stand alone dvr. Thanks.

Hi Fas!

You can not at the present have more then 16 cameras on one Geovision system (1 PC). So you then will have to use 2 X PC with Geovision. Also I think that by experience a 256MB PC from a PC builder like DELL and others probably is a low end PC = the RAM is a signal on what other parts that are used in that PC; like onboard VGA, VIA Chipset + other thins like what does the Motherboard/Bios support of memory upgrades etc.

1 PC, with new MB, VGA, CPU, MEMORY, HDD's and Windows licenses is pretty cheap in the long run instead of spending hours trying to fix anythin.

Even tough i too am a geovision loyalist, I can only tell you that avermedia has the two cards to put together to make a 32 channel system.

I hope geovision gets off there donkey soon and come up with there own stackable cards. It's about time...
