Hi,

I am new to the world of cctv, but I know my way around wiring and the general idea of how the cctv works.

My wife is a case worker at a homeless shelter, and they have an 8 camera system that runs to a switcher, and then to two seperate monitors. Recently it was unhooked for some reason now all we can get is live picture with no record, so hopefully someone will be able to point out what I am missing.

Heres what I have tried so far,

I have run the main wire from the switcher to the VCR, connected with a BNC female to RCA Phono Male connector, then ran a RCA patch from the VCR output, into a RCA female to BNC male connector to the input of the monitor. I get no picture and no record this way.

The other way I have tried is to run the main line from the switcher to the monitor input, and the from the monitor output I ran the RCA patch with a BNC female to RCA male into the input of the vcr. This way gets me a live picture on the monitor, but still no record.

Any information you can provide will be very helpful. I am not able to figure it out. If you need anymore info please let me know.

Thanks ahead of time.

I assume that the equipment manual is not available. If it is you should have started there first.

It depends somewhat on the equipment (mfg/model) but for the most part try the following.

Take the output from then switcher to the input on the vcr.

Then the output of the vcr to the vcr/input of the switcher.

The monitor output of the switcher should go to the monitor.

Depending on the switcher there should be a button that may be marked LIVE/VCR. When you playback the vcr you will need to push this button to put the switcher in the playback mode.

When you want LIVE you will need to press it again.

Hope that is correct and makes sense.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply, I have not looked at the back of the switcher to see if there is a outpout solely for the vcr. That would make sense though and explain why I have not been able to get it right.

I will get in there and take a look, and if I cannot get it right I will take note of the type of equipment and post it as maybe this will help a bit more.

thanks again
