G22 0 Posted April 22, 2008 Any idea what these 2 small black spots are? Defective cam? Tried cleaning the outside lense, but no diff. Sometimes the spots turn white, red, etc. It is a Panasonic WV-CW474AS. Would not surprise me if it has issues since it is off eBay. The wires were new an unmolested and was sold as new though. ETA: Now 4 x white spots below...
rory 0 Posted April 22, 2008 my Samsung Still digital camera has 2 of them .. inside somewhere .. one was there from day one ... the other one appeared a month later .. first one is pink .. the other one is black. So yeah must be a bad chip or something.
atropine 0 Posted April 22, 2008 One of my cameras has them, I think it's called 'dark noise' it's where slightly defective pixels overheat. You see more, and they become more noticable the longer the shutter speed, because the longer the shutter speed the hotter the CCD gets. AGC and Noise reduction can also effect how noticeable and how many pixels you see. If you cover the dome with something dark, and then keep manually turning the sens up, right up to 32X you'll probably see a lot more 'stuck pixels' with each reduction in shutter speed. If your camera is like mine, the pixels only show when it starts to get dark.
rory 0 Posted April 22, 2008 my still cam has them all the time
CameraGimp 0 Posted April 22, 2008 They are faulty pixels and there is nothing you can do about them. How they happen is open to discussion. Pixels can fail in a number of ways such as black, white or somewhere in between and you normally see them at low light and high gain.
G22 0 Posted April 23, 2008 Here they are more pronounced. There are even 5 or 6 more tinier ones. The center cross is some Panasonic thing from the cam menu. It's like a starfield and they glitter the same.
CameraGimp 0 Posted April 23, 2008 Is that last picture real or have you touched it up to highlight the fault because it looks a lot worse than I would expect and considerably worse than the previous pictures you posted. I still can't help you but what you are describing and the first pictures posted sound like pixel or blemish faults. They are a fact of life and most camera manufacturers will not warranty against them. However that last picture does look bad, a lot worse than I would expect. If it is blemishes and the camera is new you might have a case to get a replacement. Usually a blemish is small and not too noticeable especially when you are viewing a normal scene, they get lost in the pattern whereas that last picture they look very noticeable indeed. Here is what I know about blemishes. If you've got one it will always appear in the same place, the don't move. They can appear more pronounced as the ccd warms up, so they may not be visible on power up but appear after a few minutes. They are usually white but you can get different colours. If that describes your dots and they are not acceptable I suggest you contact the manufacturer.
atropine 0 Posted April 23, 2008 I"ll show you the TRUE HORROR! that is a bad panasonic CCD in sens up modes all the way through to 64X. Unfortunately I didn't' turn the gain off and the levels are too high, so the picture is noisy, but you can still see the dots, also I just threw a shirt over the lens, so the picture begins to get light towards 64X as light is creeping through. Ofcourse some of the dots are obscured by the menu, but I couldn't be bothered exiting out each time. Let the horror begin: [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img]
