Rotating a camera (not PTZ)

Recommended Posts

Is anybody using a TV antenna rotator to pan a camera? Seems like it would work just fine (if you don't need tilt). These can be bought for under $40.00 and are really heavy duty.

If sacrificing speed qualifys the price, then yes it is a value.

No slower than the old fixed speed Pelco Pan/tilts. 3 degrees per second is a snail's pace when you are trying to follow someone!

Actually, I just tried it on the bench, and it turned 90 degrees in 17 seconds, so that's a little over 5 degrees a second. How fast do the rotating brackets for CCTV turn?

Rating for the mini ptz I am testing is 180 degrees per second, also depends on zoom too.

The problem is that they lack 'proportinal zoom pan/tilt' , that is the pan/tilt speed is the same no matter weather you're wide angle or zoomed in a 30x.

But for $40 i'm sure you could do with out proportional pan/tilt.
