Wake 0 Posted May 13, 2008 Hi Everyone In CCTV Land. If Only These Kind Of Forums Were Around When I Was a Teen! I Just Bought a 4 Cam System. I Installed All Of It Including Running Underground Conduit. Hiding Cables, and Making Use Of Short Runs To Componets. Sealing All Opened Cavities In Regaurds To Cable Runs. I Have Perfect Coverage, and Reception. The Problem I Have Is With The 12" B/W Monitor. When Turned On I Have Serious Hardcore Interference On My Home TV (Not HDTV), but Not On My Home PC Monitor. What I Know: The 12" CCTV Monitor Is Transmitting Not Receiving Interference. (EMI) When The Power Button Is Turned On. It Is Not a Ground Loop Problem.I Plugged The Monitor Into Any, and All Different Receptacles On Different Circuits. No Change. What I Did: Used The Same Receptacle My TV Uses, and With a 100 Ft Extension Cord, With The 12" Monitor Walked Away From The Area. As I Walked Further Away The Interference Dissipated. 75 Feet Out, There Was No Interference At All. My Question: I Have Heard That Building An Enclosure Insulated With Tin Foil Will Fix This Problem. Is This True? If So How Thick Of Tin Foil Am I Looking At. If Not What Should I Be Looking For To Fix This Issue? Any Good Links Would Be Great For Me To Learn More About This. I'm Never Afraid To Learn Somthing I Know Nothing About. ~Wake~ It Is a Brand New 12" B/W Monitor Standard CRT, Not Flatscreen 100-230VAC, 50/60HZ, 30W, 1000 Line Res. scorpion 0 Posted May 13, 2008 See if there is an X10 Guru near you who can help you with a test. This may not work, but then again who knows? X10 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X10_%28industry_standard%29 Plug In http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/xppf.pdf Wire In http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/xpf.pdf Identifying and Troubleshooting Powerline Noise and Control Problems http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Identifying_and_Troubleshooting_Powerline_Noise_and_Control_Problems Protocal, and Interface PDF http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/technote.pdf Troubleshooting X10 Camera Switching http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_Camera_Switching ____________________________________________________________ For those that are not familiar with these devices: X10 is an old technology that has been surpassed by new technology. X10 is used to switch on lights, and devices remotely. If you have a light that you wish to turn off from the comfort of your bed at night then install a light module on the light, and put a controller by your bedside. The controller sends "signals" through you house wiring to the module telling it to turn on, or off. There are things that you have to know. There are two "branches" of 120 power in a USA house. You have to put a device so that the signal "transmits" from one side to the other side. If you did not then you may have a controller on one "branch", and a module on the other "branch" and the contoller will not "talk" to the module to tell it what to do! Wake 0 Posted May 14, 2008 Wow!! Those Were Nice Articles. I Definitely Learned Something Here. The Kicker Is That I Knew The Logic Of The Split, but It Took Me To Read The Tech Notes To Get a Better Understanding Of It. I Really Appreciate That Scorpion. I Have Put In a Order For The X10 Pro Filter. Hopefully In a Few Weeks I'll Get It, and I Will Post The Effectiveness. Thanks! Again ~Wake~
scorpion 0 Posted May 14, 2008 I love finding those "nuggets" of information! It is amazing how you can be at a loss on a project then all of a sudden one sentence can pull back the dark clouds, and let the sunshine in! I do not suggest anyone buy those testers the XPTT, and the XPTR as they are extremely expensive. Great for the Automation full timer, but not for a one up use. Wake 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Again, Thank You For The Information. Got The X10 Filter. The Filter Did Filter Out About Half Of The Problem. With The X10 Filter, and a Cardboard Box Wrapped In Tin Foil All The Interference Is Gone. ~Wake~
scorpion 0 Posted May 27, 2008 A card board box wrapped in tin foil? Does that have my name inside of it? That is my paranoid hat! Would you be kind enought to send it back to me?
