jaskarn 0 Posted May 15, 2008 Hi, I am the newbie and wanting to design my own Geovision DVR. I want really good quality footage and a high frame rate. Please help me with the specs i should use. This is what im using but please comment if you think i should change anything. Intel Core 2 Quad Processor 2.660Ghz LGA775 8M Cache 1066FSB #Q6700 (Or whatever you suggest, dont want to spend more than this) 2 x 1Gb DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2 *XMS2-6400 *5-5-5-12 *Matched pair with Heat Spreader Ram Asus or Gigabyte motherboard (With 3 to 4 PCI slots, please advise the latest stuff but it should be mid range- not too expensive) 2x Western Digital Caviar SE 500GB SATA II 7200RPM 8MB Cache - AV Edition (I want to hold about 2 weeks with 16 cams on full resolution and frame rate) Asus 8500GT Magic Silent 512MB PCI-E Video Card HDTV 1X DVI-I Standard ATX Case with 2 fans Lite-On or LG DVDRW Geovision GV-1480 DVR Card 480fps Please advise if the full 480/400 fps is achievable at full resolution 720x576 This system is for a large supermarket with 2x Magic Radar 16 cam systems and 1x 12cam system. Those DVRs are hopeless, the quality is very low and frame rate is about 7fps. Also, if i have chosen too high end then please also tell me, i dont know much about the requirements of GV. sinbad 0 Posted May 16, 2008 that looks like a decent system to me. I'll only replace the RAM to crucial where you buy the PC from? Newegg? The Hybird only means youll be abl;e to connect IP cameras to the system and not only analog cameras.AFAIK no performance improvment, but people here knows better than me check this for H264 details. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264 I usually still set GV systems on MPEG4 and not H264 unless I expect many remote connections to the system than H264 is lighter on the network. I assume in your application you should stay on MPEG4 too. but these all are matter of personal pref. IMHO, Wait till you'll get the system, then go to Video Attribute > Advanced and you can play with the options. you can see the FPS you should expect and hard drive usage. rory 0 Posted May 16, 2008 Geo's best card is the GV2008, as its hardware compression. At least for video quality. The GV1480 is 480fps record only in CIF mode. Thats alot of CPU .. ive done them with much less, 2.4 and 2.6 Core 2 Duo's, and even 2.0 Core 2 Duos. In fact back in the day it was P4's Never used a quad core myself but will obviously work fine. Geo likes alot of RAM, thats the most important, at least 2GB. Maybe step up to the 4-4-4-x XMS2 C4 memory, only a little bit more. Been using Gigabyte recently but either or will work. I prefer the 16MB Cache HDDs, but that should suffice. Everything looks good either way. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I guess the only difference between GV-1480 and GV-2008 is that the 2008 supports hardware compression. But if i use a good CPU like the quadcore im using wouldnt that make it the same then. Thats the only reason im using a quadcore. Harddrive- i hope that the one im using will be good since its a DVR edition. Does 16mb cache really make a difference? I want full resoulution and full frame rate. Rory, you say that this is only possible of CIF mode- what difference does it make. Im happy to use CIF as long as it'll do a good job. Lastly, is there a sample of video recorded by GV-1480 on full res and fps. I expect this system to give me crystal clear footage so that shoplifters face shots can actuallybe used as evidence for police. Thanks. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Sinbad says that GV-2008 supports IP cameras- are these camera hokked through ethernet cable and are they any good for a commercial application. Is there any camera you could recommend for a supermarket application. Inside there is good light- around 500lux. Outside cams need to be day/night and work well at night as well. Currently there is a LG 26xZoon cam which gets distorted at night due to light changes (security lights) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rory 0 Posted May 16, 2008 Hi The GV2008 is supposed to be D1 480fps though Ive never personally used it. The video quality is supposed to be better than the Combo cards. CIF is low resolution, so you wont want to use that. As to clear face shots, that will depend on the camera, lighting, and the Field of View. All the Geo's with Version 8.2 Software support IP Cameras but I believe you need to purchase a USB Dongle for that feature. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

jaskarn 0 Posted May 17, 2008 hi, i checked out the existing tibet dvrs. they are 100fps models and the highest resoulution is 768x576 at 4-5 fps. I guess a higher framerate would not really make picture quality higher. I tried putting the the framerate to 21fps by turning all other cams off but still it did not make too much of a difference to the video quality. I want the GV system to produce very clear footage but i guess it will be the same as the Tibet system. Since only the frame rate will go higher, resoulution will be same in both dvrs. Am i right? Currently the camera are mostly very good and high res with good lenses. Is it possible to get crystal clear video near DVD quality with any DVR. In the DVR the video is out of focus and blured.
