si_kungs 0 Posted June 5, 2008 i'm not familiar with ip cameras, what can you suggest for sea port environment? do i need megapixel ip camera? do i need to use gigabit for these? project composed of 79 ip cameras. what brand do you prefer?
jhonovich 0 Posted June 5, 2008 if you go megapixel, consider the iqeye sentinel series (http://www.iqeye.com/iqeyesentinelseries.html) which is designed for the outdoors Seaports are generally quite big so you are probably best served with megapixel cameras as it will cut down total camera count, reduce installation costs and provide broader coverage you should go gigabit for 79 ip cameras, let's say they are megapixel and stream at 5 Mb/s, that's a total of almost 400 Mb/s just some initial thoughts, let me know if you have follow up questions or comments

si_kungs 0 Posted June 7, 2008 so they need to upgrade their whole network if we are going to use their existing network. is axis good? what else do i need ? regarding NVR what can you recommend sir?
jhonovich 0 Posted June 7, 2008 ak357 - A 1.3 megapixel image is 800Kb (according to iqeye data sheet) If you stream at 5fps, that is 4Mb/s; at 10fps, that is 8Mb/s, at 30 fps, that is 24Mb/s. This is assuming you use no exclusion zones. 5 fps is usually sufficient unless you are trying to capture slight of hand or other super fast, subtle actions. Since this is an outdoor area, 5 fps should be fine and that would leave you at no more than 4Mb/s. si_kungs: I think you need to hire a consultant or integrator to determine what you need to do about the existing network. It depends on many factors, where the cameras are, where the network drops are, what the current equipment is, etc. Axis is the market leader. Vivotek is a low cost alternative. There are numerous NVRs. Since you are doing a seaport, you should consider if you are going to use analytics, mapping integrtion, etc. This will help in your selection process. si_kungs 0 Posted June 7, 2008 does axis have an nvr? or just us a nvr software and install it on a pc. we are planning to bid for this project. needs to gather some information regarding ip camera. they prefer to use axis. can you recommend other high end ip camera? jhonovich 0 Posted June 7, 2008 Axis focuses on providing cameras and not NVR software. Look to an NVR specialist for that. Panasonic and Sony are two well known IP camera manufacturers.
si_kungs 0 Posted June 7, 2008 so axis only provide ip camera. i have seen from the commercial on this site there is nuuo nvr. has anyone tried it?
thewireguys 3 Posted June 7, 2008 so axis only provide ip camera. i have seen from the commercial on this site there is nuuo nvr. has anyone tried it? Axis does have very good NVR software but it is limited to 50 camera. Axis also has a NVR product but it is not available in the USA. Some good NVR software is: Aimetis ( good pricing and very good analytics) Milestone Video Insight (Would be good for your first install the best support and all in one solution) There is ALOT of NVR software if I where you i would download the demos and take them for a spin. Use the one witht he best support because you are going to have a lot of question. You are going to need minimum 2 servers maybe 4 total depending on the NVR software you choose. Here is Axis Design Tool. Use it to calculate bandwidth and storage requirements. Milestone's website also has alot of good info to help. If this was my job I would use Axis and Arecont cameras. Alot of PTZs and Megapixel cameras with Aimetis NVR software with video analytics on DELL servers.
Optima 0 Posted June 13, 2008 I would look at Nuuo (NVR) as well
securicorp 0 Posted July 1, 2008 The problem with MegaPixel cameras are that they do not operate very well in low light and there are very few day/night versions available. Check the Lux levels on any MegaPixel camera you consider to verify this. Another problem is the environment which by the port is corrosive and is subject to harsh weather, driving rain and humidity so finding a purpose built IP camera to operate in these conditions is difficult. I would suggest using a range of harsh weather condition PTZ cameras which also include windscreen wiper, heater and thermal imaging options for sensitive areas. We would then add on a video server to convert the camera to an IP camera and make it controlable from the control station. Video & Telemetry can be transmitted wirelessly in remote / hard to cable areas. Very long distance transmission should be done via Fibre Optics otherwise outdoor grade ducted Cat6e would be suffiecient to carry gigabit data. For the number of cameras you propose a gigbit network is advisable and would at least split the cameras between 2 NVR servers. BiKal NVR & Software is a good choice or choose Axis rack based video servers in conjunction with any NVR. This solution is also cost effective.
zmxtech 0 Posted July 1, 2008 securicorp hit it on the head ! There is a big difference between the color glossy and reality IP cams you want the network fast as you can afford. For marine surveillance thermal is very good also. z
dmlindsay90 0 Posted July 11, 2008 I am doing some research to find a camera similar to what the original poster is looking for and would like to see if I can ask a few follow-up questions. Our requirements 1. Day/Night (IR) 2. IP Camera 3. At least IP66 4. 12V DC 5. 360 Degree pan/tilt I found the Axis 225FD based on some of the previous helpful replies in this topic. It seems this model meets all of those needs. Can anyone suggest other models (Axis or otherwise) that might meet or exceed those specs? Also, I am a bit confused about one of the items in the Axis 225FD spec sheet. Under "Camera Angle Adjustment" the spec is "Pan 360 deg, tilt 170 deg, rotation 340 deg". What is the difference between pan and rotation in this case? One final question...What is the alternative to a "megapixel" camera? Sorry for the noob questions; I'm sure the experts in this forum can see my lack of expertise in this area! Thanks in advance for any assistance. heloder 0 Posted July 14, 2008 http://www.titancamera.com/ For Marine or Port Applications go with the Stainless Steel.
kalpesh_nikumbh 0 Posted July 24, 2008 Fact about 225FD.. This is not a Pan Tilt Camera Dear!! It's a Fixed IP66 Outdoor Dome Camera For sea port..you should go with AXIS233D ( pls. select exact model depending on NTSC/PAL system) It has real beauty in it.. Equiped with 360deg PAN, 180deg tilt 35x Zoom true day night etc... it gives 4 CIF resolution...when why go for megapixel?? they don't give good images in low light conditions & consumes extremly high bandwidth!! http://www.axis.com/products/cam_233d/index.htm you have to go with separate IP66 housing ... AXIS do have it...but is very expensive ( is not so gr8) ...try using samsung / honeywell Housing with small modifications!!! is comparely cheeper!!! samlauncher 0 Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) hey frndz I wanna know about the largest seaports around the world plz help… Edited July 23, 2011 by Guest
SDM Group 0 Posted July 22, 2011 I would do some research and see what other ports are using and are happy with, call their security director. I know of two ports, one uses Axis with Nice Vison NVR's and the other just bought a bunch of stainless steel 'metal mickey' Bosch cameras. Also I agree, there is such liability etc. with a project like this you should get an expert involved (Consultant or Integrator) to design the system and put the bid specs together, it will be well worth it in the long run.
