I have a DM4 recorder and I want to save images of an incident to my Dell laptop How do I do it?

You posted in the wrong section! I almost missed your request!

Bring up the viewer on your laptop, and right click on the camera that you are viewing, and select save AVI. This can be done with recorded history as well. You can save the file to your desk top, or you can create a file.

Let me know if this works!

As I have never done this before you have to explain as though you are talking to an idiot. How do I connect the D4 to the laptop? What is this viewer you mention?

Here is where you can download the network viewer.

This is for the Digital Sprite II. I do not know if it would work for the DM4 or not. Perhaps someone will come along, and provide a link to a DM4 viewer.

Here is where you can download a manual.

Believe me! I am more of an idiot than you are. I just worked on my first DM DSII for the first time recently, so I am only one step ahead of you.

This can be easy, or this can be difficult. It will depend on your experience. Are you a computer guru? Do you know where all of your files are? Do you understand all of the sections of your computer?

If you said no, and you know nothing about computers, then you may want to find someone to assist you.

If you said yes, that you are "computer savy" then you can read the manual, and do some "on the job training".

Do you have a router?

Easiest way, if you are not ''Network Savvy'' is to burn to the on board CD writer then you can transfer to PC.

Or you could either...

1. Use a Crossover lead and go direct from PC to DVR, you will have to assign you PC a fixed IP address then assign a fixed IP address in the Network settings on the DVR.

2. If you have a router that you already use you are halfway there, you just need to enter a IP address and Gateway into the DVR Network settings

Either way as soon as you connect to the DVR open a browser and put the DVR ip address in the URL line, this will bring up the DVR menu where you can download the Viewer (DM has the Network Software on every machine althought it might not be the latest version it is still useable

Here is a link to the D4 Network Viewer Manual....
