Need help to view my cameras on multiple TV's

Recommended Posts

I have an 8 channel Nuvico DVR. Each TV in house which is about 7-8 rg6 lines all end up in the wiring closet with the DVR. Now I want to get the video from the cameras into my TV's. I have tried a few setups but nothing works so far. I have Cablevision for my tv service with one TV running an IO digital box. What would be the best way for me to get my cameras onto my tv's. I would just like to switch to a channel or change inputs. Any recommendations? I have tried a holland electronics modulator. each tv location has 2 cables (cable & cctv)

I would only see my cameras when I had the camera line hooked up by itself to the tv input and set to channel 65. If I were to have the regular cable on and have the camera cable with and RCA adapter on it connected to lets say input 2, I can see anything when I go into input 2.

I am confused.

I do not understand why you would be switching inputs?

The cable, and the modulated camera signal would be on the same input which I would imagine would be the "cable" input.

If you are switching inputs then you do not need the modulator.

Are you using cable boxes? If so then you need to change the modulated channel to one that is not occupied by the cable box. This requires some knowledge of the cable system as they do transmit information on "none used channels" such as the cable guide and other info.

im confused now also, lol.

Lets start over here. I will describe the setup and the I will follow recomendations.

-All tv locations have to line coming out of wall.

1- Cable

1- Spare

-There is only 1 TV in the house that has a cable box which is a DVR from the cable company.

-I want to get the signal from my cameras DVR in basement to all the tc's in the house.

-Would I use the cable line or my spare line?

-What would be the best way to hook up the system?

The spare line would be the best way, but it will not work as I am only assuming that the wire that is run is the type used by the sat dish, or cable company which is a copper clad center conductor, with an aluminum sheild.

This will not work for two reasons.

1 Dish and Cable freqs are high freqs and they travel on the outside of the center conductor wire.

2 The Aluminum does not conduct well compared to copper sheild

If they used solid copper center conductor and copper braid then you are good to go. They usually do not run this type of coax plus it is more expensive compared to the copper clad aluminum braid.

I would say use the spare with a modulator and use the antenna in or the cable in. You may need to call the cable company to ask which is an empty channel.

What does the cable DVR box use component or hdmi?

What do the other TVS use? Just the cable feed only?

I purchased the cable at home depot and ran it. It has a copper center with a alum shield with copper strands. Is that a good cable? My cable dvr has the cable in then a cable out that goes to tv. How would I connect the modulator together with my cable line and the camera dvr? Should I use a spliiter/combiner or some sort of video distribution?

Boy are you going to hate being the "hometheater tech" after you resolve this kind of ciruitry!!

First you need to make a left side circuit that has a variable knob, and then you need to make a right side circuitry with a variable knob.

If you bought the right modulator then it shoud have a hole where you can turn a pot to make adjustments. For the other side you are going to need an amplifier that has a sensitivity selector pot.

Once you have the two signals working as an independant source then you mix the two together and you have to balance it like a teeter totter.

If the modulated signal is to strong then you will have a good picture, and you will have fuzzy cable signal. If you have a stronger cable signal then it will look good on a tv, but the mod signal will be fuzzy. If you get it right then both signals will be fuzzy! If you think I am joking then you are not a home theater installer.

(this is a pain! They have redone the whole site and all of my links need updating! egads)!

Look at Large Home Run Design Splitter and that should give you a picture of what I mean.

Buy a 3 channel Modulator and then you can to cam 1 loop out and cam 2 loop out and you can do monitor out to give you a quad picture.

Now comes the tinkering to get it right! Good luck!

What do you think?

I have already tried something similar.

-Ran camera dvr out into modulator-modulator out into spliter/cominber in.

-Ran cable into splitter/combiner in

-cable tv works as normal, but on channel 65 from modulator i see nothing.

Would purchasing a video distribution amplifier and connecting the dvr to it and then the outputs from that going into my tvs with an rca adapter do anything? I have read this on several post.s

You need to modulate onto an unused channel, further no channels within 3-4 of the modulated one. ChannelVision sells "notch" filters that will remove a series of channels if you so desire.

That will work but you will need to switch inputs on the TVs and maintain the second cable plus loose having a spare.

This will probably work best as your cable boxes may reject the modulated channels if they were not present in the original lineup.

The best of all works is a client>server relationship between the displays and the sources. I personally use SageTV and I am thrilled with it's performance. However it would require Cat5 to each TV location and moving the cable boxes back to the data closet.

For now to work I hooked my camera dvr into a splitter, then from the splitters i went into the inputs of the tv's. so I just have to change the input. Can anyone recommend a 2 input modulator that isnt very expensive?
