Networking (same old problems?)

Recommended Posts

My kit:

AVTech DVR (the 4ch one with networking)

iMac OSX running Parallels (WinXP)

Netgear Router (WGR614v4) the 54mps one

Video Server E (on WinXP)

Camera into DVR - recording = Fine

DVR into TV/ Monitor - viewing = Fine

Connecting to either Mac or WinXP = No luck.

I have been trying this for months but nothing works whatsoever.

I have read possibly every which way to attempt this, but no luck.

I have even purchased a new cable thinking maybe that was the problem - No luck.

Has anybody got a frikkin clue how to:

Connect the DVR to the computer (via WinXP is fine) so that I can view the stream online and/or simply back-up on the computer.

If you can help me, in plain English, I will be eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to connect via Lan or Wan? Have you set up port forwarding? Can you ping the dvr over the internet or intranet?

The DVR is connected, via cable, to the router.

I can access the router admin via a browser.

I tried setting up port forwarding but there was a setting conflict.

I couldn't see any relevant service name so I created one - 'CCTV'

And set these settings:

Service name | Start port | end port |IP address

CCTV | 8080 | 8080 | 10.xxx.xx.x

These settings I retrieved from the WinXP and Mac system settings and then set these on the DVR to match.

I'm thinking maybe this first hurdle is where I fell.

Is there something like a "service port" setting in the DVR. Make sure you set that, mine is 7000, and then input that into the monitoring s/w along with the correct IP of the DVR. Is it using a static IP from your network provider?

If you're trying to connect a PC directly to the DVR via Ethernet you'll need a crossover Ethernet cable.

Most routers set the ip address for the dvr in a range such as 192.168.xxx.xxx to 192.168.xxx.xxx, why is yours starting out with 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, if that is your static IP then that is were your problem is, I would also check to see what ports need to be forwarded for your dvr. Hope this helps
