rory 0 Posted January 8, 2005 Hi, i know I may be able to search the online PC store and find out, but, well that takes forever sometimes, anyway, I have a couple questions anyway, so Ill take care of them all at once. #1 Is there anything that can do this. I have a PC that already has a keyboard, connected to a plasma. Client wants to browse the web from the same PC on another Plasma downstairs. Is there for starters, an adaptor that allows 2 keypads at once. Secondly, is there someway I can extend the monitor output over 100' to the downstairs Plasma? The existing plasma uses a special video card, as its old, so changing that is a no no. I guess I can just buy an extra video card for the new Plasma downstairs, but what about running the cable for it?? Also, what about running a keyboard all the way down there? If there is an adaptor, can I just run my own wire, and say splice the wire used for those wireless keyboards?? We can run wires so thats not an issue, been there done it, youd be amazed at how we got wires run in this 1940 concrete home with barely any attic ! #2 Is there any way to get the store folder for Outlook Express set to the drive of another computer on the same router? can this simply be done, by sharing the other computer, and then mapping that drive?? I dont have my network set up here to test it, yet, but client would like that on another Plasma she has, which has a seperate PC just for browsing the web. Also, is there a way to set it up, where the messages can be downloaded on the second PC, but also downloaded to the other PC, without just setting it to leave messages on the server? I know. probably cant be done ..? Thanks RORY ----------------------------------------- peace and unity once its CCTV its all good -----------------------------------------
McJannet 0 Posted January 10, 2005 We can assist with part 1. You are looking for a KVM extender (Keyboard / Video / Mouse) with dual user access. These are available in analog and digital formats. For 100' distance with one local and one remote user, analog will do fine. There are various manufacturers of this equipment, we represent Rose and Minicom in Australia. Minicom Smart KVM Extender (Israel) http://www.minicom.com/kvm_smartext.htm Rose CrystalView KVM Extender (USA) http://www.rose.com/htm/crystalview.htm Both of these systems extend the KVM signals using CAT5, but note that Rose requires regular CAT5 UTP while Minicom requires the higher spec CAT5 FTP (foil shield). CCTVINSTALLER 0 Posted January 10, 2005 We can run wires so thats not an issue, been there done it, youd be amazed at how we got wires run in this 1940 concrete home with barely any attic ! Rory, same here, we've had some real cable running miracles! actually we've had some bad ones too, we were working for a major client couple months back, one of my engineers was running alarm cable through suspended ceiling, anyway, he slipped of his ladder and grabbed onto the ceiling tile frame, ripping down about half the suspended celiing! It only toook us a couple of hours to sort out, but was a real pain! Yea looks like your sorted for issue1, for issue2, you can use a web based e-mail site check out (www.mail2web.com). You can use the web based on the second comp. Only problem is if you open outlook express on the 1st comp, it'll download the e-mail of the server so you wont be able to check them again from the web based email site on the second comp. Mind you, you could ignore outlook altogether and use the internet based site for both comps. Hope some of this info helped
rory 0 Posted January 10, 2005 hi, thanks, both. Her email comes with its web based, but It s not as easy as you always have to login. Anyway, using the monitor like this she would use the same computer so that wont be an issue anymore. Thanks again Rory
Thomas 0 Posted January 10, 2005 In answer to the second question, yes you can store to a second machine. It's under File->Data file management. You'll have to map the drives. Have fun in a workgroup setting. For the second one, I'd set up IIS and use it's SMTP server to do that. Might be iffy with the ISP.
rory 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Yeah, It wasnt something she asked for, was just a thought, you know, extra work = money

Thanks RORY ----------------------------------------- peace and unity once its CCTV its all good ----------------------------------------- I have idea on #2, you may open a free email account at Yahoo!, GMail, or so... set mail forwarding (leave the copy in the original server) from original email address to it, so you have two copies, right? Then two computers download emails using POP from two different accounts... Hope this help. rgds, dove
