roryboy 0 Posted August 22, 2008 I want to set up a 3 or 5 megapixel ip camera to take a high quality image every 10 to 20 minutes 24x7 from a remote location. I want a camera to make this assembly bullet proof because I can't walk out the door to fix it. The camera and router assembly will be located 100 miles or more away from me and I will be using a cellular router to access the camera and pull the images back to my server. My server has all the necessary NVR software to do the trick. I have heard conflicting information from blogs, etc. regarding cameras---- Arecont, IQeye, others?. Price is not the biggest issue (always an issue for sure!) but reliability. I have heard that Arecont is not reliable in this type of application. Corrupts images, locks up, etc. I haven't heard much about the Iqeye or other manufactures Any experience/knowledge would be helpful. Thanks so much. And yes--cellular is the only way I can go. thewireguys 3 Posted August 22, 2008 What products are you using to connect the camera with the cell network? I tried everything with my At&T 3G card and I could only get the camera to send images via email or FTP. I could not remote into the camera on the 3g network and I talked to AT&T and they said it was not possible because they block all incoming requests. The only way I think it will work is if you setup a VPN. I would use the AXIS 223M but it is only 2mp.
Thomas 0 Posted August 22, 2008 And yes--cellular is the only way I can go. Then you're fairly screwed. Most of the cellular based projects I've seen have ****ty uptime.
griffonsystems 0 Posted August 22, 2008 take a look at mobotix for the camera but the cell connection will be your biggest obstacle
