destro_23 0 Posted September 8, 2008 How long does it usually take for someone to set up a commercial account with geo? It's been about 15-17 days so far after sending paperwork back with tax-id's and no response? I'm looking for possibly a non hardware compression card.. the hardware compression based cards video record quality is just not as good as the old software based ones. I'm going to be doing a bar/restaurant for a close friend of mine, and he has an existing DVR in his first restaurant, it's definatly a software based card playback record quality is good. So i'm worried about hardware based cards as the playback will not look as good as his (and my) old software based card. And if we get a little crazy... be able to port POS display onto video from the bars. I'm still not sure how he will feel about day/night cams domes or bullet and all that jazz... but thats for another post.
kensplace 0 Posted September 9, 2008 No idea on the how long a account takes, someone else may be able to answer that one, but I thought (although I have not used a h/w compression card yet) that the hw cards were supposed to be dvd like quality, and better than the software compression cards. Have you tried the hw one and found the sw one better? Or is it just a feeling the hw one will be worse?

I've tried other DVR card companies that their old software compression based cards seem better to me. And that their newer hardware based cards, when playing back video, seems more "processed" and pixelated. Granted CPU is down.. but at what cost to video quality?
