SECUPOINTER-C08 8 Channel CCTV DVR factory reset

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to rest this DVR to factory defaults? I am recycling it from a business and there is no manual to be found and no one knows the password. None of the factory passwords that I have found have worked. When I press menu, the screen shows that you can press up to 8 buttons to create a password. I have tried:

- Just pressing enter (no password)

- All "1"s, all "2"s, all "3", all "4"s, 1234, 4321, 12341234, 43214321, 12344321.

- Power on while pressing top and right arrows (actually changes to PAL mode)

- Power on while pressing bottom and left arrows (changes back to NTSC mode)

- Power on while pressing P/T (allows screen position adjustment)

- Power on while pressing Enter/Play (give [GOTO MENU] in middle of the screen. choices are "percentage", "Time/Date", "Event List".

Other information:

When powered on, it shows the following screens in order:

1. A color bar pattern

2. A blue background with ver 2.48A in the top right corner. In the middle of the screen: GEN IV TECHNOLOGY, and at the bottom of the screen: video system setting to NTSC.

3. view of the video cameras.

Listing of items found on front and back:

(also see attached pictures)

In Front:

Menu

Play

Mode

P/T

Camera Selector 1-4

Picture in Picture

Freeze

Sequence

Zoom

Direction Buttons

In Back:

Alarms/Relay (DB25 female)

RS-232/485 (ptz)

Ethernet

8 Camera Connections (8 in and 8 out -16 BNC total)

S-VHS

Inside:

-PCB with DVR8a silkscreened on it.

-2 Maxtor 120GB hard drives attached each to their own IDE interface.

- Open female connector marked CN7 (guessing it is for a VGA connector.

- No jumpers, or any other markings.

Any ideas and/or a pdf manual would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE 9/29/08: Today I took it a step further. I am not sure if this is really a George Tang unit or not. I was just told it was made by George Tang Industries. I still can't find anyhting on the internet that looks like this box. I had read that George Tang units are based on Linux. So I removed each hard drive and tried to mount it on a Linux box. Unfortunately fdisk -l did not show any partitions at all on either disk. So I am back where I started. There are no other markings on this box to give me any other clues.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks Scruit,

I did a web search and found the exact model it's called a "SECUPOINTER-C08". Unfortunately password "1" does not work. I have sent an e-mail to SECUPOINTER to ask if they will help me. I will respond here if / when they get back to me.

UPDATE 10/1/08: I did some more web searching and found a users manual for this unit. Search for "secupointer c08" and received a link to download "Secu-C08-Eng(031028).pdf". I am reading a copy now to see if I can get some clues on how to reset it. I will add to this thread once I come to a conclusion.

Finding the manual helped. I found a password that was supposed to work ( 2-1-1-8-6-8-8-8 ), but I couldn't figure out how to enter the numbers above 4 as the front panel only has numbers 1-4. The manual has details on how to connect using a RS-232 interface. I was able to connect to it using a Windows PC with hyper terminal and a 9 pin null modem cable. Once I was in, I pressed M (for Menu) - The blue password screen showed up on my TV monitor, then I type in the password above and almost wet my pants when it worked.

Hopefully anyone else in my situation will be able to use this information to fix their problem.

Regards,

Rod

Eclipse had a DVR like this for a while called an Orbix I believe.

To use the numbers 5 - 8 You will have to hold the button to get a "second" selection.

quick press is one, and a hold is 5.

See if that will give you the password throught the front panel.

The one that I have access to is 4 years old at least, and still running strong!

I do not know about your specific model, but I am guessing that it should come with a remote control.

If you can get one, it is def nice to have!

One last thing, does anyone have the viewer software for this DVR? I'm trying to use "Remote DVR Client - V 2.61" but I'm unable to connect? Any suggestion - this DVR doesn't appear to be web based.

Can you make a zip of this viewer, and Email it to me?

The DVR is web based, and you can use a viewer software. The software is easy to operate, and it works pretty good. I used the one that I have access to, but they only view on a local lan. I do not know if they have the router set up to wan view it.

Thanks!

OK. I'm using two different viewers now and neither will connect. I have this DVR connected to my LAN and I've reset the password to 1111. I've tried using both viewers with ADMIN, MANAGER, and USER 1 to no avail. Any ideas? I'm sure there is specific software I should use for this.

I just have some dumb questions.

How is it that you have two viewers for this DVR. Are you just using random software that you have found?

Are you connecting directly from the computer to the DVR with a cat 5 cable?

Are you connecting the computer to the DVR using a router?

_____________________________________________________________

If you are using a direct cable, then you need one called a crossover cable which are available at most electronic, or computer stores.

What you will need to do is set the computer to a static IP.

If you want one then use 192.168.0.10

Set the DVR to 192.168.0.5

Using the remote software you will use the 192.168.0.5 as the IP address.

This should get you in.

If you are going through a router, then you are fine so far.

You will have to use an IP address that is acceptable to your router.

would 192.168.0.5 work?

Use your remote software, and enter in the 192.168.0.5 as the IP address.

This should work for you.
