Ultra 8 spinning wildly

Hello everyone,

 

I have an Ultra 8 which pans only at high speed and not under control. The problem often begins with a halt during boot up. If I manually spin the dome, past the optic sensor, the boot completes. The dome pans wildly during the boot sequence. After boot, all other parameters are controllable except for pan. Even a small pan right or left leads to wild panning in the direction requested.

 

I have swapped out all boards, the pan motor, and the optic rotation sensor with no improvement. I have flashed the latest version of software into the dome. I did not replace the camera control board or slip ring, I do not believe those items are suspect.

 

Anyone have any experience with these "possessed" domes?

Yup, we have seen this as well as interruption of data to the dome...

 

Turned up that there were problems with slip ring and communication board and as well as the firmware problems...

 

You stated that you changed it with the latest firmware... if it did not help, then the problem is the slip ring... and that you can not change...

 

Chances are very good that your dome is still under warranty, as the Ultra VIII came into the market less than 3 years ago. You can verify the warranty status by calling their customer service... Before they replace it though, you have to call their technical support and they have to give you RMA and then they will swap this dome for you...

 

Not much else you can do..

Changing the slip ring was easy, it is the same procedure as with the older models. Didn't help though, still having same problem.

Then it is the communication board...

 

Were you able to find out if this dome is in warranty or not? Something tells me it is... regardless where you bought it or who sold it, American Dynamics keeps track of all their sold hardware and if it is under warranty, they will fix it...
