jlenhart 0 Posted October 14, 2008 I have a few of the old dedicated micros DS2s and someone has set a user password. When I press the menu button to get to the menu I see a prompt that says use the cam keys to enter the password. Dedicated micros said there isn't a default password and I'd have to send it to a repair shop to get the password reset. Does anyone know how to reset the password? Its out of warranty so I wouldn't be afraid of opening it up. One more question on a totally different area. I have tried using a serial cable to connect to the DS2 but nothing ever happens. I have tried pressing esc three times then enter. I've tried every connection speed and still no luck. Do you have to use a special cable? Please let me know and thanks
ashmj 0 Posted October 22, 2008 I wouldn't post this normally but the greedy bast*rds at DM, well it wasn't actually DM, it was Gardiners as DM wanted it back through an agent, wanted £450 to sort this password thing out. Enough rambling, after many phone calls and searching we found it, The backdoor password is 613126 If you only have a 4 channel sprite 2 then use the remote control to input the password. I smell a rip off over this
alanjh1965 0 Posted October 22, 2008 It Works !!! Another tool for my toolbox. Thanks for Posting Surprising what you can find out on CCTV Forum
jlenhart 0 Posted October 23, 2008 That didn't work. Any other thoughts? I have a dedicated sprite 2 16 channel
ashmj 0 Posted October 24, 2008 That didn't work. I have used that on a few now. 4 channel, 16 channel etc. They stopped doing the 4 channel some years ago. It may only work then for the ones with the DVT37 mainboard. DM say the password is written into one of the flash ROM's and not on the hard drive. That is why it has to go back lol Don't quote me on this but I have been told several times that if you phone DM after 5.30 you get transferred to their tech department in the States and they are more helpful. I have hyperterminal'd and telnetted into these things so there must be a command to "lose" the passwords
jlenhart 0 Posted October 27, 2008 I couldn't tell you which mainboard I have. Last time I popped the case open was over three weeks ago. I want to say its the same as yours, DVT37, but I'm not 100% sure. I've upgraded to the newest firmware version, 3.x. Do you think they might have changed it in the upgrade? In order to telnet and serial connect don't you have to enable something in the configuration?
Blake CCTV 3 Posted November 14, 2008 Hi we had the same problem with the serial cable not working. It it really simple you need to use a serial crossover cable. Instead of buying one you can just swop the cables on pins 2 and 3 of the serial connector. just in case you don't have this info these are the settings you need: Bits per second=19200 Data bits=8 parity=none stop bits=1 flow control=none hope this helps
marc44 0 Posted November 16, 2008 that password only works on non netview ds2's without cd writer. spoke to dm loads of times and they say the code doesnt exist. lol if you know how to change a ds2 harddrive you will know how to wipe passwords
Blake CCTV 3 Posted January 1, 2009 I may be able to help with passwords on DS2 DM's pm me to find out how
Blake CCTV 3 Posted January 1, 2009 Changing the hard drive doesn't always get rid of the password on a DS2 because with some models they also store it on a chip on the mother board
Purist 0 Posted March 16, 2009 This works on a 16 channel DS2 with software version 3.1 (152) but does not, on an identical box running ver. 3.1 (165)
Purist 0 Posted March 17, 2009 Is it possible to get around the installer password by locally connecting via the console cable?
Blake CCTV 3 Posted March 17, 2009 Is it possible to get around the installer password by locally connecting via the console cable? Hi if by the console cable you mean the lan cable then the answer is no although you can still do a playback and file download using this. If you mean via the serial connection then as far as i know the answer is still no.
Purist 0 Posted March 17, 2009 Yes, I meant the serial connection.
Purist 0 Posted March 17, 2009 When I console to the box I get a cursor *>. Whatever I type in I get 'invalid login'. What would be the syntax to enter the username and password? Is it 'user ' and 'password >password>'? Many Thanks.

ochrisl 0 Posted April 9, 2009 that password only works on non netview ds2's without cd writer. Not true. I just used it on a DS2 with Network and a cd writer. Worked like a charm. Thanks.
grrr009 0 Posted September 9, 2011 Password only works on the INSTaller pasword and not the USER password. So will only get past the installer password. This is a bit of a pain if you have only set an USER password up. But you should have both levels of passwords or at least the installer one. PS this is fact. and only works on 3.1 (XXX) DS2, D4 etc. units.
stelco 0 Posted June 13, 2013 You can reset a digital sprite user pass with the front panel keys by entering 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. I do not have a DS2 but it may work for that one too. Good luck!
grrr009 0 Posted June 13, 2013 All these commands are done via the serial port. Works for any 3.1 (xxx) DVTR, DVTX, DVTU, D4LU hardware platforms. I am not going to explain how to connect the serial cable, use Hyperterminal or Putty. Finding out the Installer or User Password 1. Using Terminal Logon to the unit. login admin admin 2. Cd nvdata 3. Setup hyper terminal or Terminal to capture text. 4. type dsmkii.txt (The file name maybe bx2.txt), type dir to find the name of the txt file in the directory. 5. stop capturing the text. 6. Open the saved Text file. 7. Search for the word ‘password’ 8. You will find 2 lines that will look like this: sys_menu_password=31,39,37,36,00,00,00,00,00 installer_pw_state=00 installer_password=00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 9. In this sys_menu_password sting or installer_password string remove the number 3’s. This will now be the code. E.g. 1976. 10. Go into the Installer menu using the code and remove the USER or INSTALLER passwords. Removing the Installer & User Passwords 1. Put the unit into Bootloader by shutting down using camera 8 or 2. Or shorting correct Jumper. 2. 3. up towngirl 4. nvmdir bb_ram0 5. Check the directory list for 6. nvmdel bb_ram0:sysdata 7. nvmdir bb_ram0 8. Check that entry #, sysdata has been deleted. If not repeat steps 6 - 7. 9. cd nvdata 10. dir 11. Check that the file dmskii.txt is present. 12. erase dsmkii.txt 13. dir 14. Check that dsmkii.txt is erased. 15. reset 16. The unit will reboot back to normal operation mode. Resetting the Network Passwords 1. Put the unit into Bootloader by shutting down using camera 8 or 2. Or shorting the correct Jumper. 2. 3. up towngirl 4. cd etc 5. sattr realms.txt –r 6. sattr users.txt –r 7. erase realms.txt 8. erase users.txt 9. dir to make sure the files have been deleted. 10. Reset 11. The unit will reset and create new files with the default user names & passwords (user password / admin admin).
