yes you can use the I/O ports on the DVR wired to a alarm panel. BUT, if you use motion detection as the trigger you'll need to have cameras set to motion detection with a very high reliability. Elsewise you'll get false alarms............

 

what I did for a client is position the cameras so that they provided 99% accuracey and then waired in 3 motion detectors into the I/O. After all was done the DVR emailed/sent pics of the motion in those areas after specific times as per a schedule. This setup caught 1 guy on motion & video robbing him outdoors (dude looked right into the camera to see if it was real!) and also prevented several attempted breakins as he got the email and went to the biz with a gun inhand..sent the thief running..........

 

I'd keep the 2 systems seperate..............eggs in one basket add up to a bad day if all goes wrong at once.
