AVC760 PortFrwd issue - fullyconfigured, cant remote connect

Recommended Posts

This is the situation:

DVR is connected to Linksys router which is connected to DSL modem via ATT.

I have successfully connected to the DVR from the local computer on location.

the DVR settings are as follows: IP 192.168.1.10, Port 8080 set to static. for sake of this question, remote ip is determined to be 77.77.77.77 and is dynamic assigned from isp.

The router has port 8080 setup to forward TCP requests to ip 192.168.1.10

When trying to access locally via 192.168.1.10 or via 77.77.77.77:8080 i can connect.

However, when trying to access remotely via IE or Video server software using 77.77.77.77:8080 i receive a timeout error.

I am not sure what is going on as i have confirmed that the DVR is seen by the modem and the IP address's and ports all line up and match.

Any suggestions?

Also if you are not sure what IP address then use the AP software, and go to network. You should see the ip address listed that the router is giving the DVR. I have seen in some cases where everything is setup, but the router "demands" that you use the address it is giving you, and not the one that you have selected for the DVR.

Confused? Me too! Give it a try if the router gives you a different one, and you are still having problems.

Details, Details, the devil is always in the details!!

I hate the devil! LOL!

Yea i used the ap software to determine the ip address from the router it came up as .....10 the same as what is on the DVR. is there another way to see what ip address the router thinks it wants to give the DVR? wouldnt this issue mean i couldnt connect or ping via local host? open ie and enter 192.168.1.10 and i receive the AP login page. i think this means a good connection.. not sure tho

thoughts?

It sounds like you have the IP address inside of your DVR as a static ip

Go in to

menu

advance

network

and change it to DHCP.

This will allow the router to assign your DVR an IP address.

Bring up Video Server E, and click the hourglass and it should show you the IP address assigned to the DVR.

Now you can go back in to the DVR menu, and change if from DHCP to Static.

Check the gateway (this is how you get in to the router such as 192.168.1.1)

Check your Netmask (It may be 255.255.255.0, and this can be found doing an IP config on your computer).

The DNS comes from you Internet service provider, just call for internet support, and ask them. If they give you some bull about the routers dns, then hang up, and call back, or ask for a supervisor).

Ok so this is what i will do:

Turn DVR from Static to DHCP.

Wait for router to assign IP.

Verify Assigned IP by doing a search on the network using Videoserver software

Change the DVR from DHCP to Static and put the IP that the router assigned.

Change port forwarding to direct to new IP

Disable Block WAN requests options

Confirm Gateway (was confirmed when i did initial setup but will double check) Confirm Net mask (ditto)

Ping locally, Access Locally, then Access Remotely.

Thanks!

where does the ISP DNS fit in..? I am using a dyndns account to update as the location has Dynamic IP from the ISP. Is that what you are referring to?

Who ever provided you the modem is the DNS that you need to input in the network page of your DVR

ATT could be 68.94.156.1 in my area This is the primary DNS.

They can also give you a secondary DNS.

Or do you use a cable modem?

So i got it to work.

First I did what scorpion had suggested and set the DVR to DHCP to let the router assign it an IP. The IP it assigned was --.102 where i had originally set it to --.10. The gateway and everything else appeared correct.

I went into the Router settings and confirmed that Block WAN requests was disabled. It was already but good catch!. I also noticed that the router had IP addresses starting at --.100 which is prob why it wasnt registering.

I then went to DYNDNS and setup an account, entered the info in the router and everything worked.

Thanks for all the help. It really saved the day.

One quick question: If i have DYNDNS info setup in the router (WRT54G) do i need to install an update client as well? Or does the router work as the update client?
