user187 0 Posted December 12, 2008 1. Can anyone please tell me exactly what ports need to be opened for my 9000 series Eyemax DVR to broadcast correctly? I originally set up my no name, Verizon branded modem/router to use the ports listed in the DVR UI, but it refused to configure properly and thus was forced to set the DVR on a DMZ, wide open without AV. Ran great for a year, now it keeps getting hit with viruses every other day. 2. What (if any) AV could (or even should?) be used on a PC based DVR? 3. What is the safest way to setup a networked DVR? a. On DMZ with windows firewall and/or AV configured? b. Behind the router w/FWDing and windows firewall disabled? c. Behind the router w/FWDing and windows firewall enabled? d. Other? Eyemax 9000 series 4 channel DVR (OEM) (exact model unknown) Single IP (dynamic) DYNDNS service running Verizon branded modem/router (exact model unknown) THANKS! Securame 0 Posted February 12, 2009 I would never install any Antivirus or any other unneeded software on a DVR (dedicated) computer if its network connection is correctly configured, that is, if only the needed ports for the DVR program are open from outside. To (3) I would say (b) or ©, you can actually have the firewall disabled if only the needed ports are open, but you might as well enable it and allow only the needed ports on it, so it will also be safe to infected computers on the local network. coolie11 0 Posted February 13, 2009 Eyemax by default uses port 80 for web and ports 9091-9112 for client. Did you install this card in your own system or did you purchase it as a complete system? What version software are you using? The best way to setup your DVR, would be behind the router forwarding ports with Windows Firewall disabled and no Anti Virus installed. You can install an Anti Virus Software, but you will have to manual configure the software to allow connections to the system and set permissions for the DVR software. I have over 20 of these system's in the field for a long time with no issues. I normally change the web port to 9090 and then port forward ports 9090-9112 for the IP Address assigned to the DVR. If need help with the setup PM me.
