CCTVINSTALLER 0 Posted January 29, 2005 Should you use DHCP server with your router when using Geovision remote systems, or should you set your own IP on your computer?
joe4 0 Posted January 29, 2005 I only use static, and disable the DHCP.
CCTVINSTALLER 0 Posted January 29, 2005 Do you enter the DNS details too?
joe4 0 Posted January 30, 2005 Yes, Turn DHCP on then: On a WinXP computer: Start Run cmd ipconfig /all >>c:\ipold.txt Then look in c:\ for the ipold.txt file, it will have all the info you are currently have. Carry all the setting over but use a ip that is out of the DHCP range. Then I would disable the DHCP, it is more secure that way. If your DNS is the same private IP as the router ex. 192.168.1.1 I would look in the router config for the external DNS address and use that instead. Otherwise your router is acting as a DNS proxy. Then you can do another ipconfig /all >>c:\ipnew.txt to keep your settings documented.
