HELP DESIGNING FOR HOME SPECIAL EQUIPMENT NEEDED!!!

Recommended Posts

I’ve done over a thousand installations for businesses and its finally time I do my house up. So I need a little help on some different products you guys have seen or used in homes. I got all the cameras, recorder and wiring here. I can get wire to any location in the house but here are some thing I am trying to accomplish.

I want to have at least 5 screens I will mount into the walls at different locations. (Bathrooms, front door, bedroom etc. I need a device that allows me to view and control all cameras from each screen. I would prefer all touch screens. My basic plan is to touch a camera on the screen and have it will pop up to full screen. I will also have multiple PTZ’s that I would like to be able to move around from those LCD screens (if possible) but if not then just pulling up the cameras to full screen will work. Has anyone seen or used anything like this? I have a budget of about $3000 for just the parts needed to split the signals and the LCD monitors.

I have the 16 cameras now 10 mini PTZ’z , 2 Extreme, and 4 day/ night. Thinking about 4 megapixel but don’t know how I can integrate them into this so I’ll probably just keep it separate. The recorder will have 3 TB running 740X480 @15-30FPS per camera. I would like to be able to pull up video at each screen too but I will be happy with just viewing for now.

All these cameras need to go into my recorder at some point. Please let me know if you have any model numbers, websites or pictures I could take a look at as well. Thanks

I am posting this in the general viewing area as well as the private section as well just in case any DIY’s are looking for the same thing thanks.

Perhaps LAN connected touch screen computers using the DVR internet software?

Touch the 1 icon for cam 1, or touch left, or right to control PTZ?

It would be easier then creating a program from scratch, and it would save you on multi station IR control back to the DVR.

You could always do the RS 232 through Crestron.

Wow ! Touch Screens !!. Would like to see the photos when you are done. You might have to incorporate something from Crestron maybe ? I work with Touch Screen Machine Controls where I work, but most are Allen Bradley, which interface to a PLC control. LOTS of programming goes into the touchscreen panels. My Industrial Touch screen panels are also on the Ethernet, so makes it tougher to program as a PLC must recognize the IP address of the touchscreen when it gets changed out . You're going to have to put yours on an Ethernet also, if you want to have 5 or 6 screens, that interface with the same server. Never done them in a residential environment, but have seen the Crestron touch screens demo'd. I know that Wonderware ( look at the company on Wikipedia) makes just about the best HMI software for touchscreen applications. The Primary HMI Software where I work.

Yeah I started reading into the Crestron and it seems like it might be getting a little complicated if your not used to programming those things. i might do what I can by myself and sub that out. There goes the budget! Maybe I'll set up some small LCD screens with a video in and just get single camera shots for now on the monitors and run the rest through a matrix for viewing and controlling in the bedrooms and the livingroom. Yeah I'm looking to do this here in the next couple months. Ill post whatever I get up and running. Thanks for the help and links guys.

Very complicated programming, those touch screens. I am speaking from an Industrial standpoint. Need to go to a Consumer Electronics Show to ask about the programming on the Crestron series. I am used to Allen Bradley Industrial controls, as Allen Bradley has software called "Panel Builder", in order to setup the touchscreens ( their own). I think that Crestron sort of "owns the show", when it comes to the higher-end residential controls.

Either Crestron or AMX can do that.
