survtech 0 Posted January 14, 2009 why does crt look so much clearer than a lcd. Because a CRT monitor is analog and an LCD monitor is digital. An analog signal must be converted to digital either inside or outside of the LCD monitor for it to display. The conversion process is part of what causes the picture quality of LCD monitors to look poor. LCD monitors look great with IP digital camera signals. Can you use a computer monitor and will it look any better, or even a tv? these lcd monitor seem so expensive and the picture doesnt look that great. You could use a computer monitor with an NTSC-to-VGA converter but the result will not be any better than an LCD CCTV monitor would give. LCD CCTV monitors are the same as computer display monitors, but with built-in NTSC converters. The other issue is display resolution. The closest equivalent to a CRT display would be an LCD with 640x480 native resolution. That would give the best picture from an analog camera. Most LCD displays are different - they have 1024x768 or higher native resolution so the monitor has to "interpolate" or fill in the extra pixels. This also causes reduced picture quality. 3RDIGLBL 0 Posted January 16, 2009 So do most folks use a standard Security CRT instead of an LCD? Computer LCD monitors are cheaper than security CRT monitors. OR....Do folks just tell their customer that they will find that the LCD monitor will not show a clear picture representative of the actual recorded video. I've shown customers in the past some video footage to prove that the picture showing live does not affect the recorded video. Unless they will be sitting in front of the DVR all day, like a security guard may do, that a standard LCD will be much cheaper and will satisfy their requirements for a small business or residence. I run into the same LCD issues as I stated in one of the other posts.
