Hello and welcome, with having brownouts, you should consider having the dvr on a battery b/u ups. power to the hdd in these systems can be critical and cause failure of the hdd which you have already discovered. Hope this helps.

Not knowing your location, I would suggest locating the local dealers for recommendations. I have used a lot of the different dvrs, but being a manufacturer tech support, I like the ones we have. Some of the others might chime in with thier favorites. Good Luck

If your DVR does not keep the date, and the time then you may need to replace the battery on the main board.

The battery is a MS621FE battery. Here are some various links on the battery.

By not having the UPS, and the line filtration you have killed your hard drives. The brown outs are not good for the hard drives.

If you get the UPS with good line filtration, and you change the battery then you should be good to go for more years down the road!

since you have brownouts probably as bad as we have down here, best bet is either

1) Voltage Regulator - this is more important than anything, as this will save the DVR getting "fried".

2) UPS with Automatic Voltage Regulation - Same as the above but with battery backup. Some APC models have this but note that not all do, same thing with other brands, you will need to see what you can get on your side of the globe, but make certain it has AVR built in or it will be useless to you.

the term may differ on your side of the globe, it can also be referred to as Line Stabilizer or Line Conditioner, but never ever just referred to as a surge protector, those things are useless with our bad brownouts.

As to 7-8 hours, have you checked into the cost of a generator?
