norstar 0 Posted March 7, 2009 Nice to see such a forum with so much info here. I am so excited to receive my AV760 (board said AV760AM-B, carton said AVC76ZA) just yesterday. I installed a small old hard drive and a camera to test the unit the first time. After I plugged in the power the unit came up and HD spins. The power came on and stayed on. The HD light lit up for 10-15 sec and went off. The screen shows 4 sections with one being the view of what my camera sees. There is a small window in the middle of my TV and it said MPEG4 DVR. Here are the problems. I cannot turn off the unit with the power button (it stays lit) and I cannot get to any different screen or menu (for initial setup) using the front panel. Whatever I pressed there is no effect. There is no light that came on. I reseated the connections for the front panel and the main board to no avail. Since the power light and HD light (briefly) came on I would said the connection should be good. DO I have a new lemon or there is anther way to get to the menu for first time setup ? Thanks for your help.
scorpion 0 Posted March 8, 2009 I am not sure of what you are describing. Out of the box you would press the menu button. It will ask for a password even though it is not password protected. Press the ENTER BUTTON 4 times (0000) this should get you in to the menu panel. There is a screen during boot up that shows the MPEG 4, but that should go away, and then you should see the quad screen. I was confused as you said you see the quad screen, and you said you see the MPEG 4 in the middle. ______________________________________________________ You cannot turn off the DVR with the power button. If you install it in a business then the employees can just push the off button, and rob you blind. You have to go in to the menu to shut down the DVR. You will change the pass code in order to lock out everyone from the default 0000. I am hoping that you reconnected the front panel cable correctly. I am concerned about the hard drive that you installed. An old hard drive from where? If it came out of a computer then you are going to have issues. The DVR uses hard drives straight out of the package without any formating. Refer to your DVR as a 760A. A series uses Video Viewer, and the non A series uses Video Server E. (Video Viewer is the latest version).
norstar 0 Posted March 8, 2009 Hi Scorpion, Thanks for your info and you had just brought up the problem I am having. It is a hard drive I got out of an old computer as I bought the unit without the hard drive. The new install problem I mentioned was due to the hard drive I put in. I guess the DVR is hung with a non-compatible hard drive. I had tested it with any hard drive and I could access the front panel and see the menu and picture properly. I had put in another newer hard drive. I could get to everything I needed. However I had another new problem. The DVR would reboot itself every 2 min after a warning of disk scanning and the next warning is the Reboot warning. REC light came on after the reboot automatically. I guess these DVRs are very picky of what drives you put in. Now it is time for me to get a hard drive. Do you have suggestion of hard drives that I can get and compatible with these DVRs ? I know that Seagate has those SV35.2 series IDE drives for surveillance camera/DVR. Do they work better than the Seagate Barracuda IDE drives ? Are those SATA drive converter (to IDE connector) any good ? You mentioned the hard drives from old computer would have an issue. What format should they in to be compatible with the DVRs ? Thanks. norstar 0 Posted March 10, 2009 Thanks a lot Scorpion. I am trying to find the Seagate IDE drives but those listed I believed all to be SATA drives (mostly). I am looking for a SATA to IDE converter. Which converter has been tested to work in the 760 ? Does the 760 support SATA drive up to 1TB ? BTW, I do not seem to be able to get firmware from your side. What is the latest firmware for the 760 ? Thanks for your help again and your site is just a wealth of information.
scorpion 0 Posted March 10, 2009 If your DVR has the A after the model number it should be a SATA hard drive DVR. It is possible that the first release of the 760AM may have had IDE drives. I will be corrected the moment you open the DVR, and see what cable it has for the hard drive. _____________________________________________________________ 760 latest is V2030 760A latest is V1238 _____________________________________________________________ BTW, I do not seem to be able to get firmware from your side. What is the latest firmware for the 760 ? That page is under construction. With the down turn in the economy I no longer have the time to work on that page, and I do not have the funds to complete it. When the economy comes around, and I get some cash flow I will finish it. norstar 0 Posted March 17, 2009 Thanks again Scorpion. Will look forward to your new website one of these days. The 760 I got only uses IDE drives but with the prices of the SATA drives it might be better to get a SATA drives as recommended in your link. Do you or anybody on this forum can point me to one of those SATA/IDE converters that has proven to work in a 760 originally equipped with the IDE/ATA connecter ? I know there a tons of these on eBay and internet but I only need to get one that other people here uses. Thanks.
