redPlanet 0 Posted November 7, 2003 hey all, I got about 600 feet of rg6u left from a home theater install. Will this work for security cameras. TIA red
AVCONSULTING 0 Posted November 7, 2003 RG6U aluminum braid cable is not very good for CCTV. Very short runs, under 100' maybe. Aluminum shield is not suitable for the frequencies that CCTV operates at. You should use 75% or better copper braid in CCTV.

daniel 0 Posted May 15, 2004 hello is COAX CABLE 75 OHM ok? I have 15 rolls of the stuff @ 100mtrs a roll
AVCONSULTING 0 Posted May 15, 2004 Coax is 75 ohms for CCTV. Coax can be other impedances though so you have to check on the jacket to see what it says. If it is not a copper braid copper core cable then it has very limited uses in CCTV and should be reserved for RF use.
daniel 0 Posted May 15, 2004 Hello My cable says RG 59/U is that ok to use? the size of the cables will be cut at about 40MTRS APOX cheers daniel
AVCONSULTING 0 Posted May 15, 2004 That would be ok as long as the braid is copper and not aluminum.
