Bungle 0 Posted March 14, 2009 We have a camera that only accepts input on a terminal block, and wish to attach a microphone to it (it doesn't have one built in). How would we go about this? Do we need a special type of mic where the wires can be plugged in, or could we just rip the end of a normal one and stick it in to the appropriate audio in pins? scorpion 0 Posted March 15, 2009 We have a camera that only accepts input on a terminal block, and wish to attach a microphone to it (it doesn't have one built in). http://scorpiontheater.com/record.aspx Video Recording is one thing, and audio is another thing. In a residential setup I would tell you to avoid audio recording unless "SECURITY IS OF THE ESSENCE". For commercial business setup then I would highly recommend an audio setup to back up the video. Why do you need to set up audio recording, and what are you going to use it for? How would we go about this? For indoors http://www.louroe.com/mics.asp?model=amic Outdoors http://www.louroe.com/datasheets/emic.pdf Do we need a special type of mic where the wires can be plugged in, or could we just rip the end of a normal one and stick it in to the appropriate audio in pins? You need to defer to someone in your local area who can get you set up! You would need to be more specific of what kind of microphone you have in mind that you would just stick in, and what are you sticking it in to? Are you speaking of an IP camera audio input? What kind of IP camera do you have? I would not cut off the plug off a microphone unless you knew what you were doing. I would keep the plug on, and attach a female plug to the wire. This way if you ever need to replace the mic it is just a unplug, and replug kind of issue. http://eclipsecctv.com/ECL-MIC_microphone.html
Soundy 1 Posted March 15, 2009 We have a camera that only accepts input on a terminal block, Umm, maybe you could be a little more specific as to the exact camera. Most don't accept input - cameras are generally output devices.
Bungle 0 Posted March 15, 2009 Thanks for the replies. It's an acti 7411 - link to manual - page 1-7, mentions AUDIO_IN and ground. Also states it accepts audio in/out. The purpose, I appreciate often controversial, is not for home use. We are protecting an area of a school corridor where theft is an issue, and wish, under such circumstances of this reoccuring, to be able to understand the details of what is happening by the culprit(s). miker 0 Posted April 3, 2011 I am having the same issue. I have an Acti ACM-3511 which only supports audio in through a terminal block connection. And I'm just wondering how to connect a microphone to it. I have even contacted acti, but they were basically useless and pointed me to the user manual which only shows the terminal block (page 10 of the manual http://www.acti.com/download_file/Product/hardware_manual/ACM-3511_Hardware_Manual.pdf ) Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Edit: I should also mention that I am using this only to monitor animal vocalizations during day/night recording of the animal's activity.
ando 0 Posted April 13, 2011 Good evening, Here, I wrote an instruction of how to add a microphone to ACTi cameras, such as ACM-3511 and others. http://www.acti.com/kb/detail.asp?KB_ID=KB20100114003 I hope it is helpful!
