azamtim 0 Posted April 8, 2009 Hi fellas, Seagate has recently made a reluctant statement about firmware fault in their Barracuda 7200RPM Hard Drives, mainly manufactured in Dec2008. It relates to LBA-0 appearance in BIOS heres some links http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207931 To check whether your HDD is affected you can here https://apps1.seagate.com/rms_af_srl_chk/rms_af_serial_check_index.jsp To download update http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207957&Hilite=
Sawbones 0 Posted April 8, 2009 It's about time they acknowledged this... the online community has been talking about this problem for months.
Rebco 0 Posted April 9, 2009 This just shows you how companies care more about there bottom line then there customers I had to send in 3 drives in a week, they were 2 weeks old. Like Sawbones said they knew this was going on long before and did not recall or issue a press release till there old drives and firmware were gone from stores
Sawbones 0 Posted April 9, 2009 Seagate's always been my default go-to choice for hard drives... but I'll be honest, this latest debacle has shaken my faith in them. Undoubtedly that decision was made by some pencil-necked admin/lawyer at Seagate, and I'm sure it was strictly for business reasons... but it's pretty poor form not to acknowledge a screw-up like that.
