Confused about TWISTED VIDEO BALUN will they work on <---

Hello I'm a newbe at this stuff, javascript:emoticon(':shock:')

my question is I have two old bullet cams ran with (4 wire phone wire) Yes phone wire it worked ok till the cams burnt out.

 

I want to install 2 new 540 res dome cameras to a DVR off the existing phone wire using 4 Twist Video Balun's. Note: I do not have to run power to the cameras its already there.

 

1) Will phone wire work like Cat 5 wire?

2) Do you get what you pay for with Twisted Video Balun's, I see them from $5 to 20.00 Each?

3) Can you recommend any web sites deals on Domes / DVRs where do you buy you equipment from? Has anyone used this site closeoutcctv ?

Someone told me they hooked up 20 cameras in a old school via the old phone wires in the walls.

it will work, will it work like cat 5? yes and no, with the cat 5 you are less likely to get interference, but in a home there should not be much so you should be fine. since it is old 4 wire, i would go with a higher quality balun like nvt and you should be good to go.

Phone wire should work fine - I've done it over 200 ft. runs using two-pair un-twisted station wire... with the other pair running 24VAC for two cameras. It sounds ugly, but it worked great
