Camera Help for Varifocal Auto Iris

Question i am new some of the cctv systems and stuff. I would like it know in the 1/3" 2.8mm~8mm Varifocal Auto Iris lense if you still have to manually ajust the lense or can it be ajusted by the cumputer system. I got a geovision system and a generic dvr system (pc versions on both).

Or if their is some info about these lenses?

You typically need a PTZ (pan tilt zoom) type camera if you want to remotely alter the zoom and focus of the lens. Auto-iris means the camera can automatically adjust the iris opening of the lens depending on the brightness of what it's viewing, but that's all.

 

I've used a couple cheapie cameras that have a built-in lens with remote-controllable zoom and focus controls, but they just use relay inputs to control them, rather than any standard PTZ control protocols.

I've used a couple of the box style cameras with lenses already attached and have had them use Pelco-P protocol and be zoomed remotely. One of ours that does it is the 210Z4 and it's a box. Theere a few bullets now that can do it but I haven't done those personally yet so I'm unsure as to how well the communication does work.

thanks for the info on the lenses. Next Question, What are the settings for the auto lenses on the side of the camera. Theri are 3 video, dc, AES on the side were the camera auto lense plugs in, then their are on the other side DC iris level, with switch for manual and pre. then another switch with int and L.L. what do these switch do with the auto lense.

Most lenses of that type are DC-controlled, so you'll want to set the first switch to DC. That allows the camera to adjust the lens iris depending on the lighting. The iris level control lets you manually adjust a "starting point" for the iris. The other switches aren't related to the lens.
