phoenixr1 0 Posted May 20, 2009 Many of the PTZ cameras I operate exhibit a slight horizontal disturbance across the middle of the screen when I pan the camera. It's not a black or white line, but rather a transparent fluctuation in the picture. It's not anywhere near bad enough to make the camera useless, and you barely notice it after a while, but I'm just wondering if its something I can fix or if it's just the nature of the equipment? These are AD Speedomes and Pelco Spec 3's and 4s.
Soundy 1 Posted May 20, 2009 I've seen similar symptoms sometimes, particularly with Capture PTZs. It looks to be interference from the control signal itself - it happens even with just menu commands, or if I switch use a non-existent camera number so it's not actually moving that camera. As to how to fix it, I don't really know, as I haven't had to fix it - I've only really seen it when connecting my laptop to the camera in close proximity for testing and setup. hardwired 0 Posted May 20, 2009 If you have a controller that's outputting Coaxitron (up-the-coax) control signal, and you are not using that, try turning it off in the matrix/ controller, I've seen interference from that a few times.

Nah I'm actually using the same type of stranded wire to control the PTZ as I use to power the camera. Wouldn't be my ideal choice for control wire, but nearly all of the currently installed cameras were run that way by the installing technician, and it seems to work. Plus, I have plenty of it on hand. I hesitate to think the stranded electical wire used to control the PTZ would be the cause for the image fluctuation. That would be a sucky situation, given that probably every PTZ in our system is run that way.
zmxtech 0 Posted May 22, 2009 sounds like a power supply problem ? got a CRO ?
survtech 0 Posted May 22, 2009 Check your grounding. I've seen weird things happen when PTZ camera power or control wires get accidentally grounded. This is especially true when they are relatively far from the controller. What type of control/monitor/switching system are you using?
