riverrunt 0 Posted June 17, 2009 There has been a lot of vandalism in my neighborhood lately including my truck being keyed and gas tank sugared. I would really love to catch these kids or at least deter them. I would like to start my budget under $1000, well under if possible. I am only concerned about night time surveillance and mainly the driveway. I would prefer to start with a good stand alone DVR and one or two good cameras and add additional cameras as finances allow. This is all very new to me and could use some professional advice from you guys. There are a ton of cameras and a ton of DVR’s, any suggestions? My driveway is about 16x50 with a street light out front. My front yard is about 50x100 and would eventually like coverage of the whole front yard. Thanks in advance!! riverrunt 0 Posted June 17, 2009 OK, I was on Lorex's website and found this DVR (DHT304161) and two of these cameras (SG7555B) all for well under 1K. Should I pull the trigger or find something better? I can't post links otherwise I would.
peterbriss 0 Posted August 21, 2009 There are a lot of options for home systems. Lorex has some decent professional systems. If your looking for some cheap systems but may be concerned about being able to return it if there are problems then you should look at what Costco has to offer. (if you live near one). They have some really basic systems for well under 1k. You could always look at Logitech as well. They have cameras that you can use with software you install on your PC. Again very basic resolution but easy enough to install and use for a home system. If your looking for long term support etc then working with a local cctv distributor would be a better option. suky 0 Posted August 27, 2009 Hello, my hope my suggestions can help you out. "My driveway is about 16x50 with a street light out front."-----so I think the Diagonal length of the dive way should be around 52 feets, which is considered to be the night vision visible distance in complete darkness. and for diveway use, it should be weatherproof and vandal proof. My front yard is about 50x100 and would eventually like coverage of the whole front yard. so this one should be a dome with wide viewing angle and 100's visible distance in complete darkness. And it is also should be weather proof and weather proof, if it is a vari-focal camera, it will be better for you can adjust the lens for best picture quality. Any help needed, please let me know.
