shoreviewsecurity 0 Posted June 23, 2009 Hi and welcome to the forum... I am going to go out on a limb here and at the risk of embarrassment and say that DVR #1 is a Hikvision or AKA a G4 LTA 8??? DVR #2 Avermedia??? Was I right???? I think it would be better to tell us the models so we can provide real world experiences. Thanks
cgatiesa 0 Posted June 24, 2009 Thanks for welcoming me. I am not sure the brand names. I visited the store today and I gave them my current setup and wanting to upgrade my DVR since it is a bit old and already having issues. They gave me their two models sold at the store along with the price and specs. In looking at their spec sheet it does not show a brand name. Funny you mention about brand names since the few stores I visited locally, most DVR's I saw did not show one. I did ask in one store and one store said it was their own brand in which they build them in house and the other said they OEM one manufacture but do not recall the name now. So I began doing some searching and found this forum and hopefully someone can help out which model's specs look better.
dopalgangr 1 Posted June 24, 2009 No brand names huh? It may be a Hikvision or some other name brand DVR and they do that so it makes it harder to search for a better price on the same model. Or it might be junk and they don't want you to research it by its real name and find out. Both of which makes me leery. Or they could have built (either from quality parts or junk). Would you buy a car if it was advertised as just a "car"? Remember, both a Chevy Cavalier and a BMW can both do 100mph, but I bet the B'mer does it faster and better
cgatiesa 0 Posted June 24, 2009 Yes I understand perfectly what you mean in regards to the brand but I would take the risk not knowing the brand. In fact reason it does not bother me is that my current DVR also did not have a brand on it, bought from same vendor and I have not had any problems. So back to the specs, which one would you ror anyone else on the forum ecommend? Thanks
shoreviewsecurity 0 Posted June 24, 2009 Spec's are only one way to determine which DVR to buy. Real world experiences really tell the story. Firmware issues, networking capabilities to name a few. I would be surprised if anyone will actually give you a straight answer on this. Just not enough info. If I had to go by spec's and being an H.264 guy and will bet that DVR#1 is a Hikvision LTA8, I would go with that one. I have had very good luck with that line. Is it this one???? The one in your store may have a black front.
cgatiesa 0 Posted June 24, 2009 If memory serves me correctly it looks like this one but black. I saw a couple of DVRs today so by the time I got home I was overwhelmed...
shoreviewsecurity 0 Posted June 24, 2009 I thought so. It is a decent DVR. The only issue is that it will only record in CIF - if that really is an issue??
