Thatcher 0 Posted July 7, 2009 I don't have the ability to mount anything on the exterior of my house but still want to have a camera, so my current idea is to have one looking out of a window. Obviously this isn't ideal - but its what I'm working with. I am after suggestions of what I can do with either a bullet or pinhole camera to make it less obvious there is one looking out of the window. I'm thinking of simply putting it inside an ornamental type box with an appropriate hole drilled in it. Does anyone have any suggestions of what wouldn't look out of place on a windowsill that could house a camera ? To get the angle I'd need to see over a roofline to where I park my car the camera would need to be right at the top of the window.
Soundy 1 Posted July 7, 2009 The biggest problem with looking through glass is reflections, especially at night. I don't have any specific suggestions for mounting this thing, but you WILL likely need to come up with some way to "seal" the lens against the glass to prevent indoor light from hitting the glass right in front of the camera. DVR MAN 0 Posted July 8, 2009 I have a small camera at about a 45 degree angle hanging down from the top of the window frame close the side of the window where the room light is. The lens is about 1 inch from the glass, and it works well.
scorpion 0 Posted July 12, 2009 As long as you "shadow box" the window so that no interior light is within the window area then is should work. Also you can open the window, and insert a piece of wood between the window, and the frame. Paint the wood so that it does not stand out. You will need to find a way to secure the window such as with a piece of wood in the track, or a locking device, or what have you. Now attach your cameras on the outside your house, or your apartment without getting a letter from the front office about drilling holes in the building. Now someone will give me the window is unsecure lecture. OK! I threw a brick threw your window! Now is the part that you tell me the motion detector caught the brick in motion, and set off your alarm. If they move the window then your motion detection will catch their fingers when they poke through right?
