Can't login to DR040 via Video Viewer

Recommended Posts

Hello Folks,

i have recently bought a DR040 and trying to log into it via the video viewer application - without any success. The login via the browser (I.E.) works without a hitch. When i use the same credentials in the video viewer application, however, it doesnt work.

My laptop and the dvr are connected via a netgear router, and both are on the same ip address scheme (on a LAN). Port is 80 and the password is also the default one (admin/admin).

I tried the video viewer version that came with the DR040 as well as the updated versions from the net but none of them lets me get in.

Will appreciate any help.

thanks much,

ashir

You have a strange situation indeed!

I cannot think of what the issue is. Usually it is easier to log in with AVTech AP then the browser.

You can connect with the browser so this tells me that you can make a connection via LAN.

It is dumb of me to ask, but I would ask what IP address you have in your Video Viewer, and then I would ask are you local, or remote?

Then I would ask what port do you have.

Now you come back, and tell me what an idiot I am as you already told me port 80.

If the DVR ip address matches the Video Viewer, and the Ports match between each other then the next step is the cross over cable, and changeing the settins on you computer to static in network connections > Local Area Connections > right click for properties and making the changes in internet protocal.

The DVR does connect to the "internet" with the browser so this tells me that the circuitry inside the DVR is working, and the problem is the Vid View settings, or the router has not been port forwarded for 80.

What have you found?

Hm, I'm not sure, but I think that viewer application is written in java...you could have some java issues on your laptop OS ..try to reinstall java with the latest version...

Have you edited quicktime preferences to use tcp 80 in stead of udp 554?

Advance, Custom, then change it there.

This worked for me

Hello Scorpion Dvrtiger and Mfdcaps,

Thank you all for your responses.

Scorpion - about the IP address, i am using a static 192.168.0.10 on the dvr. The router has 192.168.0.1 and My laptop has 192.168.0.2. I've also tried DHCP on the DVR and with the laptop also on the same IP scheme. Again, in both the cases the internet explorer option works ok. I've also checked and rechecked that the IP, the port (80) and the passwords are all the same in the vid viewer and on the dvr - and i am using the same to connect via IE. I am not sure about port forwarding on router and will check this out. But thanks for your tips because at least i know from your response this should work.

Dvrtiger - i believe i do have java runtime, but can you please tell me what version do i need? in control panel i can see a java option and it shows me JNLP (JRE1.5.0. ).

Mfdcaps - i am using TCP 80 port but i havent gotten around to using quicktime yet.

Once again thank you all. Really appreciate it.

Finally! the video viewer is able to login to the dvr. Please dont ask what the problem was. There's a thing called McAfee firewall - Need one say more?

Thank you all once again, without your help i'd still be going in all directions. I am pretty sure i'll be bugging you again with more questions.

Cheers,

ashir

Glad you got it sorted - I was about to post that it was most likely a firewall problem. With most firewalls you have to grant access to specific applications to connect to the internet. Obviously IE using port 80 would be understood to be fine by McAfee without granting permission but other applications, especially uncommon ones, will be blocked.
