PeedleJ 0 Posted August 6, 2009 Are there any particular things I should consider when buying a multimeter for cctv and general low-voltage work? I am new at this and my funds are limited. I am looking at Craftsman #82139, 82344, 82312... all about $30.00. Is autoranging, battery testing a consideration? Any recommendations for similiarly priced mm's? VST_Man 1 Posted August 6, 2009 all you need is a simple 12VDC & 24VAC tester.........and most cheapies come with more. I use the chep of cheapest out of Harborfrieght tools since I loose them or forget where they are...........less than $10 a copy
scorpion 0 Posted August 6, 2009 I prefer a needle meter (or an analog meter as they call it) rather than a digital meter. The reason is that I like to see the meter. Digital ones are hard for me to read. If it has back lighting then that would help that situation. I like the needle type so that i can watch circuits with resistors, and caps. In other words I can see a decaying voltage as the needle sweeps to 0. The digital ones seem to "jump" around while I am on a solid constant voltage, and I cannot see a decaying voltage with the digits hopping with wild numbers.
