Another guy in need of help!!!

Hello all,

I'll just start out by saying I have tried to look up all my information and failed .

So I come to here for help. It's been over a month now with a bunch of failed purchased items.

 

Here is what I have

 

PC with a standard video card with dvi vga and svideo output ge force 6600

 

Dedicated PC running xp 2 gb memory with a geo vision 650, 500 gb drive nothing else installed on the PC.

 

Netgear ethernet switch fs726 24 port with a 2 1000base-t ag711t for the bay. being used for internet for 3 computers.

 

1 POWER- CCTV Power Supply 12 vdc to 24 volt.

 

Like a idiot but going to try to make it work 4 cameras Covi eq 1000

Said to myself wow 800tv lines hd what could be better. But after the purchase I find out they were bought up by GE opps!

 

Video baluns to cameras over cat 5e. 4 are power and 4 are passive

the way the cat5e is wired pin 1 is light green-green-light orange-blue-light blue-orange-light brown- brown.

 

 

3 TVs that I would like to view images so when someone comes to the door we can see who it is.... feed needs to be great not average.

 

Would like to be able to see the cameras over the internet so if my alarm goes off it rings my phone.

then I just check the cameras over the phone or next example we are at the computer and our baby is crying we would like to pull up IE and take a look.

 

 

 

There are 2 cat5e cables that are going to each camera 1 is for main view and another that is for full screen.

My thought was to use 1 of them for power and video back to the switch then connect to pc and power through a video balun. Can the switch handle power? So PC to Balun and power to switch from there to camera?Do I have the wrong idea here?

 

I had a 12vdc power supply and tried to connect to 1 of the cameras 40' away and it dropped 6 at the camera? first frustration. So I bought another power supply that is 12 and 24.

 

This is all I can think of off the top of my head. Kind of all over the place with the information please be kind if I did miss something.

 

If someone could give me an idea what more is needed please help. also needed is a guide on really how to connect this mess that I have.

I read your post when you first posted it. It said PC based DVR, and I stopped reading your post as I am only a "stand alone DVR guy".

 

You will have to forgive me, but after I read your post today I realized tht you are in way over your head.

 

1 POWER- CCTV Power Supply 12 vdc to 24 volt.

 

You have to buy a power supply that matches your cameras. What power is required of your cameras?

 

Lets see:

Voltage Requirement. 24 VAC, 12 VDC auto sensing

Power Consumption. 6 Watts

 

 

If you have 12 volt cameras, and you are having problem getting the right voltage then you need to use two conductor wire that is 18 guage. Perhaps you need to switch to 24 volts AC?

 

Using cat 5 for power should work for short distances, but what size guage is your cat 5 that you are using for power?

 

 

3 TVs that I would like to view images so when someone comes to the door we can see who it is.... feed needs to be great not average.

 

This is going to be dependent on the cameras more than anything else. Your cameras will do just great for this!

 

You will need to run the video from the GEO 650 to a distribution amp / signal splitter, and then to the three TVs.

The computer that has the DVR should have video on the monitor already. A remote computer would go to the internal lan IP, and you will have to portforward your router.

I am confused as to why you are using this kind of camera? You sound like you doing an entry level "do it yourself" set up, yet you are using equipment above a simple install?

 

Are you using the DMM-2100 with the Crystal HD software?

You do realize that you are only going to get 720 X 480 30FPS video out regardless of how great this camera is?

 

 

HD viewing is provided by 3rd party Digital Video Recorder (DVR) manufacturers which license and

employ CoVi’s application. DVR manufacturers that implement CoVi’s HD code can provide the HD

resolution viewing capabilities, through a simple integration of CoVi’s HD application. For this

reason, HD viewing is enabled by the CoVi camera management application or via a DVR that

implements Covi’s camera management protocol.

You might be better off running RG 59 for video.

Here is where you need to stop, and hire someone to do this set up for you!

Usually installers learn "on the job". You need to watch someone install this a few times, and then you need to install a few to understand how to troubleshoot things that come up.

 

Where are the manuals that came with the products?

 

Where did you buy all of this? How come they do not provide the info that you need?

Let's start by saying thank you for the reply. As for my questions as you can see they are in layman's terms and will have to be defined as we go for the lingo is just not there for me.

 

 

1. What power is required of your cameras?

 

The cameras are 12vdc and 24v so they can be whatever you like.

as described I connected then to 12vdc and there was a 4 point drop in power so purchased a power supply that could do both 12 and 24. I received the power supply and hooked it up to 24 and worked fine no drop.

The cat5e being used is 24g solid. So what I'll do is take 2 pairs and send power that way.

 

2. run the video from the GEO 650 to a distribution amp / signal splitter

 

This is what I'm kind of lost on. The video card in the pc has a vga connect. But when hooked up to a vga to TV splitter it's a mess looks terrible. so I will have to look in this further.

 

3. so if my alarm goes off it rings my phone

 

My alarm for the house dose this if the alarm is tripped. my phone will ring and I'm able to listen in on the house. So if my phone did ring with my home # I would like to go directly to the web and take a look at my house.

 

 

4. The camera was purchased because of the features and cost factor.

No I did not until I read more on the products hence the New Guy.

So conclusion

 

Purchased power supply, Ran cat5e Everything seems to be ok only 1 issue

The camera seems not to focus. I tried all the items stated in the manual and still will not focus. Back focus was also adjusted but will not focus to a crisp image. The lens being used 1/2 Rainbow HD Lens 3.5mm CS Mount. So what I would like to do is cameras will go into the garbage and start over. Just not happy with the results. What I'm looking at is what I want to see on the camera. Maybe just asking too much for this product it is outdated already.

 

Oh almost forgot the reason why I took on this project is because in Las Vegas #1 pretty much all the contractors out here can't be trusted and they do the job half a-- you know what I mean. The influx of people into Las Vegas insures that the bads can stay into business

The camera should come with some software. This should allow you to set up the 3 sub views.

 

Are you using this software to focus the camera? I wonder if mechanically it is focused, but electronically it is out of focus. I have never used this camera so I do not know for sure.

 

Is this a close out purchase? In other words they do not have the support that goes with the camera?

 

It seems like the only trick you have to resolve is the TV image.

 

Perhaps you can install a card that converts the VGA signal to give you a composite out so that this can be hooked up to your TVs?

The software for the camera is only to set up the zup views. There is no focus done with the software.

 

I guess you could say it's a closeout item they have been out of business cense 07, I have not been able to get any support of any kind.

 

On the video to TV looks like that will have to be done just did not want to start buying more stuff lol.

I'll wait for replies on the eq1000 but looks to be a failed attempt

 

So now my question is

 

What camera will go with my setup that I have also that will take the rainbow hd lens at 1/2 I hate to get rid of these too they look to be good lens and they were not cheap. But I want a great image not something to get by.

 

So the camera has to use cat5e or I could go back to the baluns

use the rainbow lens and can be used with the gv650 card.

 

This looks like it will be a ongoing project. My wife is going to hate me.
